Trevor Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Right now I have a Corsair CMX512-3200C2 running and I was wondering if I could run a second one in dual channel because I couldn't do it when the second one was a Kingston KVR400X64C25. So I just want to know if two of the corsairs will work or you could help me get my corsair and kingston running togather. Sharp Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Hello, I dont think you will be able to get the kingston + corsair to work together. Dont buy a new stick, buy a Dual channel kit or 2 new modules. If you buy 1 new corsair and try to run it with your old corsair it may not work. Then maybe sell your old modules.
Trevor Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 What if I get 2 new Corsairs?
Sharp Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Yeah that will be ok, I did say "or 2 new modules".
Trevor Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Then why won't a new one of same model work with old one of same model?
Sharp Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 It depends on the Revision. If you buy the new one a year apart it will be the same make/model but a different revision. A different revision may mean that they are using different chips or the timings are slightly different. So when you run the old one and new one together it may not work. If you can guarantee that the new module you buy is going to be exactly the same, (make/model/revision) then you will be ok. If the supplier restocked it may be a different batch/revision too. Smoken Joe Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Corsair is not the best memory for this board anyway. Corsair is constantly changing there memory as said. Sell what you hve and get a matched pair of good stuff unless you want to try and run with CPC disabled or such.
xWhiteboy55 Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 I have a pair of Patriot XBL Low Latency Rams Theyre really nice -- ran memtest for 8 hours straight - and no errors. just trying to give some ideas -- I havent overclocked them yet, but from other people on these boards I hear that they overclock very very nicely. -Matt
RGone Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 Sharp that truly was some of the "sharpest" advice I have seen in a while. Cuts thru all the BS and guessing and was a glimpse of 'real world' reality. I see so much 'conjecture' given as advice to users that should be labeled as: "in my opinion", rather than any thing near cross platform compliance. Thanks for a real bit of advice. RGone...
