xtrematrix Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 I received a new motherboard. The SLI-DR and I am having a problem installing Windows XP. I know you have heard this a million times, and I have searched the forums up and down... I cant find the answer to fix my problem. ERROR: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT I have setup the bois to the exact specs that were listed... I have reset them several times to make sure I have all the settings correct. I used to have the Ultra-D motherboard and everything seemed to work. I have run MemTest86 several times and everything seemed to check out. Any ideas? xtrematrix Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/search.php?searchid=51663 I have done a search already and couldnt find an answer. I have loaded the latest Bios before I did anything... I am rather fustrated, and cant seem to think of what i am missing... When I did the search I found most people of the people with my error had already gotten windows installed.
xtrematrix Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 I get no errors in MemTest, but from what I am reading I need to change the Timing and/or Voltage for the memory. Could someone give me some advice on what to change the numbers to? I have Corsair 2 x 512MB 2-2-2-5 Ram. (link in sig)
Angry_Games Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 you can to raise the voltage for the memory you can try 2-2-2-6, 2-3-3-6 etc ive had absolutely ZERO luck with anything Corsair makes on our DFI LanParty boards except some OLD XMS 1.1 that has true Winbond BH-5 chips on it. If you have access to some other memory, please try that. if not, you can ship the board, cpu, and memory to me and let me test them out. If the board needs a replacement, I can RMA direct and have it shipped to me, and test it again with your cpu/memory to validate. xtrematrix Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 For some reason I thought the Ram I purchased was compatable with this board. In your opinion which is the best Ram for this motherboard? Also what range should I keep the voltage in? I have tried 3.0v and I got a little farther in the Installation Process then I did when it was 2.9v. Then I tried 3.1v and I got a bluescreen sooner. Should I ONLY try different voltages? How does the timing work and what ranges should I try?
xtrematrix Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 Errors: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL PFN_LIST_CORRUPT The errors seem to switch between those two listed above. I have a nother question from what is listed in the last post: What should my Maximum Payload Size be? I have two(2) 256mb Geforce 6800 GT. Should I have 256 or 512? rise4310 Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 i think either will work. my single is set at 256, i've had it at 512 and when i first booted i used "optimal settings" which set it a 4096 or something. anyway, can you get stable just using "auto" on your timings and bumping the volts up? some memory, like mine, seems not to respond well no matter what voltage i put on it. i've been advised to get some ocz el rev2 3200 so i'll see monday i was getting the IRQ_ error with memory issues when i oc'd. i'm a noob so take what i say fwiw but i didn't mess with any timings on my first boots, installs and some benches. Guest Ne0 Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 from my *limited* experience with this board and setup, the pfn list corrupt/irq not equal BSODs are memory related. I have different brand RAM but solved it with a different Tref value than the autodetect. Try some different values in Tref and see what you get. You could also try installing windows using just one stick of RAM. When you say memtest passes okay, how many passes? One isn't enuff. I leave mine running for 8 hours or so to ensure a safe passs. Try setting it to loop test 8 over and over. Good luck!
xtrematrix Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 20 Pin Powersupply was the problem. A New 24 Pin SPU got windows installed without any problems after i upped the ram voltage to 3.0. Unfortunetly now when I install windows sp2 the computer freezes before i cna even login.
Angry_Games Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 have you been able to load any chipset/vid drivers etc? or just get to login and it fails? still sounds like memory...its possible maybe to get that corsair workin on your rig...try different Tref values like earlier poster said try fooling with the memory timings too, or possibly try different bios (you should put the bios version you are using in your sig!) I still hold up my offer to pay for shipping to have it shipped to me to test...but if it were me, I'd see if it ran at a divider (9:10 or 4:5 DRAM Ratio) and start shopping for some other memory. Try setting it to loop test 8 over and over. I have let it loop four times in a row. have you been able to load any chipset/vid drivers etc? or just get to login and it fails? still sounds like memory...its possible maybe to get that corsair workin on your rig...try different Tref values like earlier poster said try fooling with the memory timings too, or possibly try different bios (you should put the bios version you are using in your sig!) I installed Windows XP sp1, DirectX9c, Chipset drivers (minus IDE drivers), Audio, Network, Video, SP2... Freeze As for your offer to pay for shipping and check out the settings... I may take you up on that. I was just hoping to get this setup sooner and without all the hassil. I am trying the Tref setting on Auto because I dont know any better. Are there any memory settings that will actually damage my hardware, or can I just go crazy and try every combo I can think of? When you say 9:10 or 4:5 where do I plug in these numbers? And about Purchasing NEW ram was the "ocz el rev2 3200" on the top of your list? I would like to get the best performing/stable ram for around $240.
