Its a old thread but more towards the end of it you'll catch some users benchies with sata II drives.. Thanxs THunDA These are on sale now in the UK at Komplett, I want to put an order in, but only if I know they work ok, will check out the benchies right now to see performance. -EDIT- Ok another thing worrying me is tht the Ultra-D only has the sil controller, it is the controller which provides support for sata-II, correct?? Going to try to find out of the sil3114 supprts SATA-II

Ill hold off putting the order, but their arnt many in stock Also, any tips forthcoming on wht drivers, bios etc to be used with raid would be cool. Im a total n00b to raid arrays, so a few pointers would be VERY handy l8rz

Going to try to find out of the sil3114 supprts SATA-II NP bud... About the controller.. ummm.. you making me think.. When I setup raid with my Ultra-D I used the Nvraid drivers on ports 12... well running a single raptor right now cuz WD sent me one dud as a replacement... robowang Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 The SIL 3114 only supports SATA I MSI uses the SIL 3132 for 2 more SATA II ports. the only feature I like better than the DFI
drewski Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 The Ultra-D does NOT have the Sil3114 controller. ONLY the nVidia SATA, which is 3.0Gb/sec and supports SATA II, iirc. the 'R' in the -DR signifies the Sil3114 controller, which is 1.5Gb/sec
RGone Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 you got it dead to rights there sir drewski> the NON _R boards have only the NVRaid Rom controller. Boards with R have NVRaid Rom AND Sil controller and Sil does not support the sata2 feature NOR nCq but I have run my Sata2 drives in 1.5 mode and 3.0 mode and the REAL difference is so small as to be almost unseen. My Hitachi New 80gig Sata2 drives are a good bit faster than their earlier non sata2 counterparts but switching them to 3.0gbs mode does not speed them much and in either setting they are dang close to the raptors I just installed to find out I would not pay the difference for them. mongoled Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 Thanxs for the info guys, drewski, nice of you to clear tht up for me, im sure my brd is just an Ultra-d, so i can go ahead and buy the hard drives Still open to any raid0 tips , I would lookup the information myself, but I no longer have my own internet connection, am relient on public library time, which is restricted, so any main pointers would be very helpful. Will be online for another hr or so, after tht will have to log in tomorrow some time, only allowed 8hrs/week hey Angry, Yeah the search function should be everyones first port of call, but i like interacting with peeps within this community has a real homely feel here, always glad to come back and post
