Which PCI VGA Card For DFI NFII LP B and NFII UI?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am looking at getting a PCI video card for backup in case I stuff up my agp card during flashing BIOS.

I think right now I may have about 2 options based on NVIDIA chipsets.

1. MX4000

2. FX5200

So, I'd like to know:

1. Which one is the newest?

2. The difference between them. I think 2. would be the most powerful. And that is all know about them.

3. Future proof wise, which one is better? In case I upgrade to NF4 mobo or even NF5 will they still be detected and help me flash the BIOS in the PCIe card?

I am asking these questions because I just bought an S3 based PCI vga card and it does not work on my NF2 mobos, being DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra B and DFI Ultra Infinity.

When the system is turned with the PCI vga card in the slot, there is just nothing posting on the monitor, which is connected to the PCI VGA card. Yeah the monitor's just blank. Can't even remember if it booted properly as I don't remember hearing the beep sound.

Thanks a lot in advance for your input.

Regards,

FLD.

Yes for backup purposes.

But my concern would be the compatibility with the LP NFIIB and the NFII UI.

Since there's no "x-day" satisfaction guarantee policy offered here in Australia I do not want to spend my money on something that does not work.

I bought 1 S3 card hoping it would work with the mobos I have, but it does not as mentioned in my OP.

Thanks very much.

Regards,

FLD.

Well, since my DFI board is a secondary rig I've only got a GFTi4200 128Mb VIVO card in there which I know for a fact works :) However, the only place that you may be able to find such an old card is probably eBay.Com.Au

I can get the card here in here no problems.

But just wanted to make sure that it (either the MX4000 or FX5200) will be tected in the BIOS when the AGP one present, allowing me to flash the original BIOS to the AGP card.

You may have to change the Primary Graphics Card from AGP to PCI in the Bios...

S3, that sounds like its an old one... Did you try that card on its own with the AGP Card removed?

Thanks a great deal.

1. Yes, I did.

2. Yes, it is old. I bought it because many had told me it would be fine. And basically, I lost my money. So, this time I think I should ask around mopre before I buy a PCI card.
