Melted_CPU Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I just finished building system last night. Board POST but the SATA drive is not being recognized in the BIOS. I have all the connections plugged in to all the power connectors on the board. I have the drive on SATA 3. Drive is WD SATA 120 GB. The board recognizes the CD/DVD drive. I am sure it is something I am doing wrong.
Melted_CPU Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I found this information on the Western Digital web site: Problem My Serial ATA hard drive not recognized by the system after I installed a new SecureConnect Serial ATA cable. Cause This can happen when there is no power being supplied to the hard drive using the SecureConnect SATA cable alone. Solution When you use the SecureConnect SATA cable, you also must use a Legacy MOLEX power input to apply power to the hard drive. These MOLEX power inputs are included with your computer and power your other IDE devices such as CD-ROMS and IDE hard drives. Why would I not have power to to the drive via the SecureConnect SATA cable? MC
Angry_Games Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 do not connect both power plugs to the drive. Only one or the other. I would also try a different SATA cable to make sure the one you are using is not defective.
soundx98 Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Actually it is different. The Drive has no Power. The WD Secure connect is a very wide connector that covers the SATA and other connections. You DO NEED to plug in the Molex (Power) connector. Both Connections must be made. They are very rugged yet flexible SATA connectors with a much wider Drive End. Available at WD online store for a mere $9.95 each. Whole Raptor deal ya know
