Juggernaught Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Well here I am back to DFI with a raft of new problems. The main problem I have is that my system is toally unstable with my Gfx card in slot 1. I can run it in slot 2 fine but that defeats the object of this mobo as I was hoping to get some nice benchies out of it. I was wondering if there is any way at all to get the 2nd PCI-E slot to run at 16x? If there isn't, the board will have to got back. The second problem is that my front (green) audio connector is dead. I have an Audigy 2 lying around, so this isn't vital. Check my sig for specs, you will see that I have a good, 24 pin PSU. I am also running the 310p bios but have tried others with no success..
Sharp Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Hello, Did you plug all the power connectors into the motherboard? There should be 4 in total. No you cannot run 2nd PCIe 16x slot @ 16x. If you move the jumpers you can make it run at 8x. Are you sure the Karajan module is plugged in properly?
Juggernaught Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 yes, every single power connector is connected and yes I have plugged the module in properly. So it isn't user error, my vid card runs perfectly in the second slot, but stability goes out of the window if I run it in slot number 1. Juggernaught Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I'm just wondering, If I set the slot 1 jumpers into SLI mode and left the slot 2 jumpers where they are, would that allow 16x on the other slot? I might try it, as this mobo seems to be crippled anyway.
drewski Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 this doesn't answer your question about the unstable PCI-e x16 #1, but you're likely not going not miss x16 PCI-e vs. x8 PCI-e, as AGP x8 (same bandwith of 2GB/sec as PCI-e x8) isn't fully utilized. http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=554&pid=2072
RGone Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Yep, I read that before the NF4's had hardly arrived and knew all the hoopla about 16x was just that mostly> hoopla. Sell new parts always is my motto. Hehehehe. All in the industry do it. Good link man. Juggernaught Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I will miss the x16 PCI-e because I was planning on setting the water cooled world record in 3Dmark. The vid card does 720/660. But it is still going to lose a few marks running at 8x. Running at 2x, while stable, cripples the performance. It's looking like I'll need to RMA the board. If there had been a way to make the other 16x slot actually run at 16x I might have tollerated it, being a NF2 Infinity veteran made me very thick skinned and open minded about DFI. Looks like I'll be out of pocket for shipping costs and have to put up with more down time, ho-hum
Juggernaught Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 ***Resolved*** Sorry everyone, I found some lint jammed in the #1 slot, I cleaned it out and all is well. Haven't got a clue how it got there though!
Angry_Games Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 lol good to hear it was as simple as lint
drewski Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 LOL!! i think i need to go and read this thread now! http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9900 edit: similar thing happened when plugging a new drive into a storage backplane. drive wasn't recognized, even though the power light was on. i pulled the drive out and saw a dust bunny on the connector. blew a bunch of compressed air in there and things were AOK . . .
