Ultra-D: SATA Problem - HDD turns off, but doesnt turn back on

Recommended Posts

Hallo,

I recently switched over to a SATA HDD. When I leave the computer unattended and come back to use it, it would kinda lock (mouse still moves and basically anything in memory still works, but I am forced to a Reset because anything requiring the HDD will not respond)

So basically I have to disable the "HDD power down" in the energy settings of windows, otherwise the HDD turns off, but doesnt power on again. Very starnge, I had no problem with this when I had the PATA drive.

Is this a general Ultra-D problem or is my board broken (well hardly since everything else works)?

So I guess SATA hot plugging wont work either.

possibly your psu cannot resume power states to the hdd...i have never heard of that brand of psu...can you provide a link to it?

i dont use the power-down feature on hdd's at all, only on the monitor.

have you checked the power states for periphials in the NF3 bios under Power Management? They have to be set to let Windows OS control their power states not only in Windows but within the BIOS also.
