mucker Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Just wanted to share this is all It's been bugging me about the side duct on my Antec 3000b not lining up directly over the CPU HSF center. I did a little modding to the duct and now it is dead center over my Zalman 7000Cu and extends right down to the fins. (See attached photos). The CPU cooling is fantastic this way with idle 32C and load 38C @ 1700rpm fan speed (25C ambient). When I turn the fan all of the way up, there is good suction into the CPU area. Don't smack me too hard with my tape job  I am into quiet computing without breaking the bank, so this mod surely helps me out. m
soundx98 Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 So you cut a hole in the side of the original duct and then added another duct with side cut out? Instead of cutting another hole through the steel side? Think I'm following you. good idea. Nice chair
mucker Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Thanks It's actually pretty easy. See my barnyard drawing. NO THOSE ARE NOT TOILET SEATS! You just take a sharp pair of scissors and make "T" cuts on the 2 existing pieces as shown (No other parts are needed, the stock duct is a 2 piece extendable unit). Unfold and shape the plastic as shown in the top views. Mate the 2 pieces as in the "after" view, I used sheet metal screws to attach them. Electrical tape to do all the rest of the sealing (I could have done better there). I used a white piece of flexible cardboard to make the extension so that it almost touches the Zalman fins. When together, it is pretty rigid and works well.... If Antec would make a moveable vent, there would hardly be a better case from a cooling standpont. m
soundx98 Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Way to use your head. Very creative and simple. But the barnyard sketch, Dang, those do look like toilet seats!
vega27 Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 i just made a very similar mod. my cpu heatsink fan is on my side window, sucking in cooler air. i made a tube out of construction paper, taped to the inside of the fan and extending almost to the top of my xp-120. see my OC below. idle temps are 29-32C, load 49-52C. cheap mods are the best!
