Phil05 Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Hi guys, i have big problems with my new DFI Board. Two months ago i've bought me a new system wich contains the things you can see in my signature. The system won't run without crashs (Bluescreens wich say that i should disable options like bios shadowing if this happens often). I'm already searching the whole time for the Problem so I've done already these things: Changed the Graphicscard, changed the Hdd (I've testet 2x IDE IBM Deskstars, 1x SATA Seagate Barracuda and finally a SATA Samsung Spinpoint) and changed the Ram. In the first time I've had running two 512 MDT Singlesided (PC3200) sticks but i got errors after 30minutes in Memtest with this Ram so I bought the G.Skill of my signature (Memtest hasn't found no errors after 22hours) as that doesn't help I've put in a 512MB 333MHZ Infenion stick but that dosen't also help. I've also change the power supply (before I've had a 400W Coba). I've updated the bios to the last version and i'm runnig it with the optimized defaults. The only things i've changed: Cpu Throttling turned off PCI Pay load to 256MB 2Sec Drive delay Bank Interleaving off CPU Special Control: Above VID = 104% (Otherwise the Cpu Voltage is at 1.36 but i haven't noticed that anything changed or run better....) and disabled all onboard components which I don't need. The other thing is that the system crashs unsteady, sometimes after 3-5Days sometimes every 5minutes. In the first time it even runs a little bit more than two weeks (with the G.Skill). But if it crashs one time it crashs in shorter intervals (half an hour to every 5-6min.). The only thing which helps in such cases is to power down the system for a few hours or to change the ram, then it will run again for sometime. Oh and a other point is that it doesn't matter if play games, run benchmarks or if the pc is simply in windows it crashes most of the time in windows when i'am doing nothing or download stuff. Here are my temps and voltages, they are all constant : Voltages (Bios): Cpu: 1.38V LDT: 1.20V Chipset: 1.51V Ram: 2.63 ATX +3.3: 3.32V ATX +5.0: 4.99V ATX +12V: 12.09V ATX +5VSb: 5.02V Battery: 3.09V Voltages (Smartguardian): Cpu: 1.39- 1.4V LDT: 1.16V Chipset: 1.47V Ram: 2.59V ATX +3.3: 3.28V ATX +5.0: 5.02V ATX +12V: 11.9V Battery: 3.05V I've already raised the ram voltage to 2.7V but it doesen't matter. Temps: Cpu: 22-25°C Idle PWMIC: 29-32°C idle Chipset: 39°C idle -------------------- when i'am running 2hours: Cpu: max 36°C Chipset: max 44°C Ok, thats all. Plz help me! Its very frustrating! ah and plz excuse my bad english ,i'am from germany. Greetz Phil

YuriLuzr Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Did you upgrade the BIOS? I updated to the 3/10 version and it solved my problems. I also set my RAM voltage to 2.8V, that seemed to give me more stability.
LazyBum Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Are you using the Nvidia firewall? I had crashes until I disabled it on my machine
Roughnecks007 Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 OK lets start with the basics, if this is too simple my appologies as I do not know your skill level. Reset the CMOS (remove power cable, press power putton several times, switch jumper and leave for 1 minute, reset jumper, power on) and load optomized defaults. Then disconnect everything you don't need, so in the end you should have PSU connected with all four connectors (20pin atx + 4pin aux or 24pin atx w/ molex and floppy connectors also), CPU (obviously) and RAM in the orange slots, HDD for windows and no optical drives (not sure if there cound ever be an issue with those so might as well rule them out as a possible source of instability). The most inportant thing is not to have any add-on card installed as I have had many problems with cards in the past. See if that helps. Cheers, Roughneck
drewski Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 maybe i'm paranoid, but i don't install windows until i'm MemTest error free for fear of some file corruption due to memory errors. i know it's a PITA, but if you haven't reinstalled since getting your stable memory, it may be worth your while. Phil05 Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Thanks for the fast answers... I've the newest Bios and already done a cmos reset but with a older Bios version and with the old ram. I've disabled the firewall, but the system also crashes as i haven't it disabled. The ram is in the Orange slots (but i've testet all slots already). Tomorrow (now its too late and I must sleep) I will remove the Audigy 2ZS and make again a CMOS reset, but these both things haven't helped as I had have the MDT Ram and the old Bios. Greetz Phil Edit: I've reinstalled Windows and formatted the hdd several times.
drewski Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 what are the specs on that power supply? amps on each of the main rails? and you've got it plugged into all 4 places on the mobo?

cpuz Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 4 places? 1. 20/24pin 2. 4pin aux - what would be 3rd and 4th place? the 4 pin molex type connector (hdd type) and the fdd (floppy type) connectors.
drewski Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 4 places? 1. 20/24pin 2. 4pin aux - what would be 3rd and 4th place? there is a 4-pin Molex connector (looks like a connector on back of PATA HDD), and a 4-pin Floppy drive connector. IIRC, the floppy drive connector is close to the x4 PCI-e, and the molex is towards the right edge more near the end of the x16 PCI-e??? there some posts with pictures. do a search, but definitely these should be hooked up! Phil05 Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Ohh i've forgotten to plug in the floppy connector! Thanks for your help so far... I've done it now and hope that solves the problem! Greetz Phil
