Who Says New Castle Doesn't OC Well!

Recommended Posts

I've been reading a lot about how New Castle is no good for OCing, and how winnie's blow them out the water.

Well as you all can see in my sig, I've had great success OCing my New Castle. And this is just at my 24/7 stable setting. I've had it running for hours stable over 2.7 ghz. With a FSB over 300! And all this has been done with standard pc3200 memory [and air cooling]. I plan on upgrading to the new OCZ pc5000 [design just for the dfi nf4 series :P ] as soon as I can find it. :/ [i guess the upgrading never ends really   already have spent over 1500 in the past 4 months, 3 grand more and i'll be happy ;):P ]

I just thought I would post this for other New Castle core amd64 owners, to give them some hope. Because I've yet to read anything good about New Castle, it's always these little geeks bashing them! I did read in one hardware review that the winchester's weren't much better, but that was it.

If anyone else has had good success with OCing the New Castle AMD's then post your results, I'd love to see it.

Plus we can rub it in all these winnie guys faces :P

PS. Had my New Castle running at 2.66 ghz @295X9 for over a week, but rolled it back to see if I could get any different results. I haven't noticed a drop in speed so I figured I'd just keep it here.

NCs have been overclocking nicely. I have been running my 3200 at 2500 MHz since my build with zero problems.

I wasn't aware of much NC bashiing and the results posted over at OC forums show good results for those reporting in.

Check it out

My Socket 754 NC 3400+ (2400MHz) did about 2550MHz at quite a lot of VCore, I couldn't manage to cool it quietly enough for my tastes, so I run 11*220 (for the RAM) at lower than stock voltage instead.

Anyhow, I've heard that there are newcastles out there that are actually "crippled" FX-55's (half the cache), they are supposed to OC quite nicely... :)

Congrats That is a nice clock. I dont thik there has ben too much NC basing here with the latest batch of WC duds that came out.

You're right.. I haven't seen any NC bashing here, but I have on other forums. Just go in google and type new castle vs winchester and you'll see what I'm talking about. This forum isn't guilty of it, as far as I know. :D

Yeah i had a Newcastle core on a amd64 3000 and it wouldnt go over 2.2 but i have no hard feelings i know that it doesnt matter what the core is (winnie, NC, Clawhammer) it doesnt guarantee a good OC no matter what. So i will go back just cant afford to buy a new cpu everytime one doesnt oc good! LOL just my .02

That's because the right chip goes hand-in-hand with the right board.
