Angry_Games Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 i take it your replacement board works just fine?
Poisonsnak Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 You might want to swap mic right and left if it does not work. Also I think you should swap the 'front ret - l' with 'line out left', if you think about it what they are saying is that 'line out left front' means the signal is travelling to the front panel, then the 'front ret - L' means the signal is coming back to the karajan board and that should connect to 'line out left' which refers to the regular line out on the back. But try your way and see if it works, I have a feeling you will have no rear audio with this setup, but you never know.
housecat Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 i take it your replacement board works just fine? it sure does! i love it the pins came bent again tho from the audio module laying on top of that portion (the front panel pins), i called frank and left a msg that it was like this. figured he'd want to know. but it wasnt bashed like the 1st 1st thing i had to do was update the bios, cuz i got a bluescreen whiel trying to install windows without the latest. besides this front port audio problem, its completely stable and fast i like the bios logo. havent gotten to OCing yet, that wil come after this is all straightened out. the manual that comes with the super lanboy is HORRIBLE im going to try just pulling all the plugs off karajan and just doing the audio and forgetting the mic for now Poisonsnak- I should have rear audio. On my asus, if i plugged in my headphones the rear audio would cut off, then unplug them and it'd come back on. it was awesome. housecat Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 ok heres how it is now.. this is most logical to me case - karajan mic- vcc micbias- mic right aud gnd- gnd fpoutR- line out right front fpoutL- line out left front retR- line out right retL- line out left in the case manual, it says Mic is the power.. so I'm pretty sure the mic part is correct. same thing tho, no audio on rear unless i plug something in the front port headphone. unplugg the port and nothing from either end! housecat Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 tried putting the mic on left instead of right.. didnt work
housecat Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 i unplugged all the mic plugs, and now it comes out the rear speaker output as its supposed too.. but if i plug in the headphones, it cuts off the speakers and comes thru the headphones. BUT its very strange like its coming from underwater! something is very, very badly labeled here. i will get to the bottom of this. any ideas, plz pass on
housecat Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 ok i left the mic plugs off, then swapped the fpoutR - line out right front with fpoutR - line out right and so on for the other two now the rear speaker output still works, but when i plug in headphones it kills the volume way down.. but doenst output at all to the headphones! ARGH! this is insane any ideas? besides kill myself or my family
housecat Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 ok wierder yet.. i go back to the "aqua" setting.. and plug the speakers from the rear in the front.. PERFECT audio. then go back to the headphones... aqua! then put the headphones on the back of the rig, PERFECT this has to be the strangest thing i've ever seen. but it does this same thing everytime
housecat Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 did it again on another pair of headphoens on the front this has to be some connection issue
housecat Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 hmmm well the regular speakers work on front and back just fine what seems to be happening here, is the front port is coming unamped (or even current buffered). hence the "aqua" sound when using unamped headphones.. but perfect sound with amplified speakers. I'm starting to think this is a design issue with karajan. no matter how i set the plugs, the headphones either dont work (set incorrectly) or they sound like they are underpowered (correctly, but something is wrong). does ANYONE have any ideas
housecat Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 well unless anyone else has any suggestions.... i know these things: 1. my cabling from the front, and the front audio ports are OK. they work fine with the powered speakers. 2. the karajan IS cutting off the sound when i plug in the headphones in the front port, and rerouting the sound 3. it just sounds like something is dying when using headphones. so what it seems to be is a issue with karajan and nonamplified headphones. in most implementations, including Asus's and an Audigy2ZS, they do what is called current buffering to keep the signal strong enough for headphones. I think something is wrong here with DFI's Karajan. Someone using front port audio w/Karajan and headphones please post your results. If it works fine/ect. I'm highly disappointed. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, or whats going on.. please post.
