I noticed a while ago in the device manager that this mobo says there is a Built-in Infrared Device.

I didn't know this mobo had this.

Don't know if I will ever use it but may come in handy one day.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the grave, but is this really build in? I mean, can I start using it right now with my phone?

AFAIK its just a pinout on the motherboard, you still need an infared device to plug into the motherboard before you can use it.

Sorry to bring this back up again.. but I only just noticed this in the device manager too.

Is it safe to disable it? Will XP work ok without it?

Snoop was almost right.

The infrared device is installed and active. All that's needed is the transciever device that allows it to send and recieve infrared.

Yes you can disable it in Device Manager without causing any problems.
