Recommended Posts

To anybody that remembers that i tried the OCZ EL GOLD PC4400 that supposedly uses hynix chips and had awful results..... i'd assume this is why

I suppose thats why they loved 2.5-3-3-7 timings so damn much.

all i wanted was some hynix!

Mike,

Contact Tony (BigToe). He has been a BIG help to me!! He is a member on this forum, I think OCZTony. He probably has his email in his sig.

That ram should NOT have TCCD chips. Something is up.

Ed

Well, i dropped him a line. Its pretty late i think where he is, so i'll look for a reply tomorrow sometime.

I do believe it was him that said to me in XS forums, something about "i could have told you that some of the pc4400's use TCCD"

I don't expect OCZ to do anything about it. Its not their fault at all. The memory did exactly as was advertised, and the timings advertised. i just feel kind of let down, and a little discouraged by OCZ products and staff. SteveOCZ over at OCforums pretty much ignored me any time i asked him for help, advice, or questions. this is my 3rd set of OCZ ram, none of which did very well for me AT all... I don't know if its just a stroke of hard luck, or if i'm expectations are too high.

Either way, i don't fault ocz, everybody seems to think they have outstanding products, and fantastic customer support. Everybody as well seems to achieve stellar results with ocz products. I must just be in the dark or something.

So, i suppose someone can look for some EL GOLD PC4400 on ebay soon....

Mike,

DON'T give up!!! Tony WILL take care of you. Trust me. I emailed Tony on Saturday night, my time, cause my PC4200EL Platinum took a poop on me. He emailed me back Sunday morning!!!!! And I will have a new set in a couple days. If you aren't happy with their products then they will make it right and they will go out of their way doing it!!!

You will be suprised what Tony and OCZ will do for you. But Tony is the man to talk to whenever you have a problem. I always go straight to him.

Good luck and don't Ebay that ram yet ;)

Ed, your right, Tony is a super guy. He's already replied to me offering an exchange. I just had a few questions for him before i make a decision.

I understand what your saying about them being supportive. I'm just saying that i whole heartedly understand that there is no reason for me to be "unhappy" with these 2 sticks of ram. They are advertised as 2.5-4-4-8 @ 275, and that is precisely what they do. Nobody owes me an exchange or nothing. I was just simply disappointed with my results, and don't expect anybody to bend over backwards to help me.

Oh well, i think its about time to reconsider all of my components...... 955 dual core what? :eek2:

I totally understand!! But I always thought, as did you, that the Gold series was Hynix, and the Platinum was TCCD.

Doesn't matter if you expected them to do anything or not, they will ;) Seems to me that there customer service doesn't care about the reason(s) you are not happy, just the point that you are "not happy" and they will bend over backwards to make you happy. (I am not talking about you, just in general)

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I can agree with you 100%

i have had 3 sets of OCZ ram and all of them did what they were advertised to do but beyond that... well lets just say OCZ, if they are going to charge what they do, and pump up their product like they do and call it "Gold" and "Platinum" had better startusing products that out perform the others.

SImply put, i have had 2 kits of OCZ EL Gold PC4000 and 1 kit (which is 1 week old) of OCZ EL Platinum PC3200 rev 2. TCCD w/ brainpower 808 pcb's.

none of which, even the OCZ pc4000 were stable past 250mhz. 1:1

This is with any voltage. This was also with 3 Pentium 4 northwood systems and 2 amd64 systems.

the pc4000 when running a 9/10 divider - 180mhz is stable to 320mhz. both sticks. which is amazing i guess but its still running a divider, which means that even at a 200mhz dram freq, the ram doesnt hold its own.

the pc3200 tccd instantly bails at most anything past 250mhz 1:1. and even with a 9/10 still wont work well. at a 5/6 divider - 166mhz. it will run around 310mhz but that serves no purpose since its 166mhz dram freq.

But i have a sneaky feeling this was caused by the AMD64 processor and not the ram, but i can not confirm this.

this is all with 2 sticks

now one stick the tccd is stable up to 275mhz, but the pc4000 still has issues past 260mhz.

I know the PC3200 is PC3200 but with the fact that those chips are actually DDR500 chips set in a DDR400 stick, i was hoping for some nice overclocks. But i was wrong.

I for one will not be purchasing anymore OCZ ram... ill try G.skill or something from now on as i am seeing some insanely impressive things with that ram.
