Thermaltake Watercooling

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Has anyone used the aquarius 2 water cooling kit from thermaltake if so i would apperciate some help on things to do and not do as i am new to water cooling. If not anyone who has a water cooled system has any advice it would be appericated :D

Yes, i have Aquarius II running right now....

What exactly do you need help with, would be glad to give any advice.

If you are planning on doing some major OCing do not get this watercooling system. It is designed to gve the same perfomance as a average to good heatsink, but without the noise. I have the system right now, but i am going to build my own custom kit and put it in this summer, in order to get better temperatures and allow for more OCing.

Yes i am waiting for it to arrive will be here tomorrow and just wondering how safe are the connections on the heatsink(Leaks) ,oes it attach to the cpu is it the same as a standard heatsink clamping procedure and what type of temps can i expect to get running stock speeds and above.

AMD 2800XP @2.250Ghz FSB 360

GIGABYTE 7VAXP-A- ULTRA

1.5Gb PC2700 Samsung Ram @360

ThermalTake Xaser 3 Case

ThermalTake HeatSpreaders on Ram

ThermalTake Volcano7+

Sound Blaster Audigy 2

Hercules 3d Prophet 9800pro@ 390/340

System Temp Idle 43 Degrees

Cpu Temp Idle 49 Degrees

System Temp Under Load 46 degrees

Cpu Temp Under Load 53 degrees

as you can see my temps are not the lowest even though i have taken the extreme route big case lots of fans

If there is anything that you had difficulty on installing your i would be grateful if you could tell me.

Thanks

From the research I have done, your temps will probably be a bit HIGHER with the Aquarius vs. your V7+

I do not own the system but as others have said, it seems like it is not the best at getting rid of heat, but it IS super quiet......

Ok, here is what i have and the temperatures i get:

Asus a7v8x mother board

Athlon-xp 2100 running at 2157mhz (obviously over-clocked)

Core temperatures are set to max in the bios, i think its 1.8 or something not sure.

Kingwin case with 2 x 80mm fans on the front intake, 2 back exhaust, one top exhaust and of course the Power Supply exhaust.

with around 25c room temperature, i get 46-48c idle and around 50-52c at 100% load. So this is definately not the best tempreratures.

The installation is super easy, the one thing i had problems with is the clam for the CPU block was kind of touching the memory, it was not anything serious, i the clip just bent back a tiny bit, and fit in there. I later moved my memory to another slot since i only have 2 stick and 3 slots for it.

The tubing provided is pretty good, and you get the spring/coil thing to put inside the tubes to preven them from kinking. Since the pump is not powerfull there is very little pressure and the connetions are secure. Even without puting clams on the conections it will remain 100% water tight (you still should put clamps, i just tried it once without them).

Is your case steal or aluminum?

If it is steal you just slap those powerfull small magnets and attach all the parts to your case, if it is aluminum you attach steal pads first with double sided tape already on them and then put the magnets on there. I got my case recently and i am geting another water-cooling system, so i did not want to put any glue/tape on it and just used wire ties.

One thing i would recomend is puting the radioator outside your case. This way you have nice fresh air cooling it, and you are actually taking heat and disspating it outside the case thus lowering the overall temperature inside the computer.

I did lap the water block since it was not perfect enough for me, but it only took 20 min since it was already pretty smooth.

That is a nice BIG case. It probably has nice air circulation etc... But the fact remains that your cpu produces around 100watt of heat. That heat has to go somewhere, you can let it dissipate inside yoour case or outiside your case.

The temperature inside your case is always higher than room temperature (unless you are using a refrigirator, or some crazy sort of cooling). As you know the radiator works best with colder air being blown on its fins. So it is better to have room temperature air, rather than inside the case air. You could put the radiator right at the intake inside your case, but that will still dissipate the cpu heat inside your case.

I am not sure how much difference this makes, it could be only 1-2 degrees, maybe even less. Of course having everythign nicely packed inside the case looks better than a radiator slaped to the side of the case and some tubes coming out. I do not care for looks as much as i do for perfomance, thats why i am going to be making a big bulky but very COLD water cooling system using peltiers, etc... B)

So try this put in inside your case, let it run for a while, to stabilize the temperatures etc...

and then put it outside, since it is realy easy to attach and disconeect the hoses.

For your second question:

I have read a lot about different cooling solutions and what i understand the best thing is plain water. But in order to stop electrolysis, and other corosion processes, it is best to add a little bit of Water-Wetter (available from your local car parts/rapair store, such as Pep-Boys in US). Water-Wetter stops corrosion and lowers surface tension of water. But i gota warn you, it will stain your tubing. So now my tubing is light pink color.

Any other questions? woud be glad to help.
