This would be a matter of opinion. My first amd build was with an nforce2 and it was awesome! It almost made me want to go over to the amd side! The onboard audio is superb and having dual ddr is a nice feature. As far as I'm concerned, the nforce2 boards are some of the best. They are without thier share of problems though, I've read many articles concerning bad bios on the board. Its really up to the end user in the end...

Xylicon, So your'e happy with your NF7s-2, i have been comparing that to the gigabyte equivalent and wondered what people thought of the two. I have a AV78X, that should explain why I'm looking around, also it's slowly cooking my cpu.

I have both the a7n8x deluxe and the abit nf7-s v2.0 motherboards. both are good quality for overclocking. the a7n8x comes with more features than the nf7-s, but the nf7-s gives you higher vdimm and vcore settings. also makes use of a 5bit FID (Frequency IDentification) so that you aren't limited to only the low multipliers or the high multipliers. you can actually use any multiplier you want, no restrictions. the extra bit the 5bit has over the 4bit, makes it so that your motherboard can determine whether to be the high or the low. (example: if you have a 2400+ on the a7n8x and you choose a multiplier setting of 7x/15x, it will automatically choose the higher of the two multipliers (the 15x).

if you had a 1700+ and choose that same multiplier setting, you would get the lower of the 2 multipliers (the 7x). the highest multiplier you can get on a a7n8x with a 1700+ is 12.5x. if your ram can only get up to 146Mhz stably, then the highest you can oc your processor to is 12.5x146=1825Mhz.

None of this should be a problem if you have memory that can operate at high frequencies.

this limitation can easily be fixed by buying faster ram, or by physically modifying the processor in order to gain access to the higher multiplers.

the a7n8x deluxe is more feature rich than the nf7-s. it has 1 more lan port, 2 more usb 2.0 headers, a game connector, and different types overheat protection, etc. (although abit's overheat protection i hardware controlled and can be set in the bios. i don't think this should really play any major part in your decision. it didn't matter that much to me, but thought i should inform incase someone else does. i guess it could be nice not to have to rely on software to shutdown your computer. it's not something that i'm worried about, but i guess its nice to have)

also the a7n8x has more in their software bundle. also asus has a P.O.S.T (Power On Self Test) Reporter, which annouces what the problem is that your system is having when you power on your system. it can really help you pin point what the problem is, which is much nicer than trying to figure out what the problem is yourself. can save time if there is a problem.

i only personal experience w/these two motherboards. i've heard that the Epox equivalent is suppose to be really good as well.

so you should really choose depending on whats most important to you. i think both boards are excellent choices, and you pretty much can't go wrong with a board based on the nforce2 chipset. Just make sure, no matter what board you choose, make sure you are getting no less than a rev2.0 board.

If you see a leadtek board just run away dont buy it if it is on a computer ur buying just run away. It is awful it doesnt oc very well and overall it has problems with the bios. Some options dont show up half the time. I would go with asus for nforce2 they have the best if only i had known.
