Trakfast11 Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 you should be fine with any of the brand names. They all perform relatively close to one another. just make sure you buy memory rated at a cas lantency of 2. one other thing. do you plan to oc your memory? cause some types of ram do not oc as well as others, although most of the brand named ones don't have too much variation in oc'ing ability. i guess cost may also play a factor. other than that it is hard to go wrong with any of the brand names. it would be nice to hear others experience with a certain brand of ram though. what works well for others. my HyperX is working well for me. i can't say that i have used any other type of memory though. HyperX isn't the best out there, but it is a good performer. I hear corsair is suppose to be really good. and there are a few others as well. Mercury Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 mushkin is easily the fastest ram available, though expensive. sorry if that sounds contracending, but thats the simpest way to put it
TypicalSloan Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 mushkin is the best and like mercury said its expensive for the "good stuff". Corsair is probably the next best.
soke73 Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 (edited) why not go with 2 sitcks of 256 right now. 512 should be fine with good high performance ram. plus you could utilize dual channel right now.. as far as brand name.. asus themselves run their dual channel(a7n8xdel) benches with the corsair twin mods. lots of sites have these twin xms sticks rated the highest in performance and reliablity. at least what i've seen. i got my stock of 333pc2700 oc'd currently to 370mhz.. started to get some instablity at around 374Mhz(187*2 .. 100% mem freq ~ fsb) 2 2 2 5... with pc3200 you could 400Mhz with ease and fast timings as well 2 2 2 6.. I increased sisandra mem bench 300 pts: 2558/2390 to 2872/2671 hey good ram like corsair, mushkin, hyperx will perform well enough. I just advise quality ram and 2 sticks now. shadyone Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 well if i get two sticks it will mess up plans. i want to get one 512mb stick now and one 512 in a few weeks so i can have 1gb. if i get two 256's and one 512 later i can't use dual channel can i. i would like to go with 1gb eventually so that is why i wanted to go with one 512 stick right now. thanks for the advice guys keep it coming
