Jimi Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Has anyone had any problems with their Floppy Disk Drive? I got my SLI-DR installed the day before yesterday but I'm unable to boot from a bootable floppy. Yet if I boot into Windows I can access the floppy from there!? Your suggestions are welcome. Since you can see the floppy drive in Windows and read/write with it we can say the cable is good. As far as booting from the floppy, have you set the boot order in BIOS correctly. Try using Floppy then CD the hard drive.
RGone Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Is the floppy drive listed as first place in the 'bootable'>removeable drives section? Is the removeable drives listed then as first boot priority? And lastly is the floppy drive turned on in Standard Cmos Features. Sounds as if cabling is correct if you have no constant on floppy light and is useable from within windows. Or it could be the floppy disk it self that is partially corrupted. I would make another bootable floppy disk or make sure it boots another computer. RGone...
Jimi Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Thanks for the replys. Is the floppy drive listed as first place in the 'bootable'>removeable drives section? Yes Is the removeable drives listed then as first boot priority? Yes. And lastly is the floppy drive turned on in Standard Cmos Features. When my PC is booting up and it gets to the bit where it says "Checking CMOS... Ok!" or whatever it says, if there is a disk in the drive then the PC will just hang and I have to reboot. RGone Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 I have had that sort of hang only a couple of times in putering and it usually happened becauses the floppy was written on another floppy drive a year or so before and I had to remake the floppy. I keep 4 duplicates of all my floppys just becauses of that as the floppys just seem to go bad and yet they are my troubleshooting tools and so I do not like it when one does not work and I have a set that is always kept up away from light and electrical disturbance but then h*ll that is just weird me. Hehehehehe. Good luck man. RGone...
Poisonsnak Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 One time I mounted the fdd in a case with one of those external buttons, and I mounted it too far forward so the button was pushed in slightly, and the drive worked only intermittently because it was kind of holding the disk up a little.
