atx voltages

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Was just wondering if you guys could tell me how acurate your atx voltage readings are in bios on the lanparty ut nf3 250 gb and also what readings you are getting in bios with a good supply like antec.

Thanks,

FryMAN

Well the voltages are about the same but I notice my +12 is 11.76 where yours is lower.FryMAN

Just remember that the onboard sensor should never be trusted until you actually measure the voltages a digital multi-meter. You can use a molex to monitor the 5V (red) and 12V (yellow) signals. You can get the 3.3V (orange)reading from the SATA power connector.

I do have a multitester to test it more acurately .... Should I have the board under normal load when I do the test? Just curious what you guys get for readings with system powered on in all the atx voltages? Also how much variance are you guys getting?

Thanks,

Test at idle and full load. This will give you an idea of how much "reserve" power you have. Most PSU are rated for 10% tolerance which on the 12 volt lines is 1.2 volts. Even at 5% you're still down over half a volt.

Personally I like to stay withing 2% of rated voltage at all times.

The readings aren't very accurate. Its usually lower than the actual voltage delivered by the PSU. You should use a multimeter to measure and not rely on readings in the BIOS and monitoring software.
