nf2 ultra b mp fsb problems

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

After my nf7-s died i needed a new mobo so i ended up with the nf2 ultra b. I find it very hard to even reach STOCK cpu and ram speeds!

The problem is that windows wont boot when i use aggressive settings for my ram and cpu. On my nf7-s the ram could run at 220mhz 11-2-2-2 (3.0vdimm) with ease but now i cant even get it stable at 200mhz with 3.3 vdimm.

The main problem is that i can only get into windows with default multiplier and default ram speed (6x133). If i change the multiplier it wil post but fail to boot windows then it resets. If i change the fsb (even by small steps) the mobo will post but fail to boot windows then it resets. The only way i can get into windows is to set everything to default :X I used the hellfire rev3 and the turbo but it makes no difference whatsoever. The cpu is cappable of running at 3.1ghz 24/7 with only 2vcore, I keep some healthy psu lines so thats deffenitely not the problem.

Am i experiencing some form of cold boot?? When i use clockgen the highest i can go with the default mp is 200x6 (totally not stable). There's no way that some parts of the mobo get to hot, everything is sinked with copper with 3 fans aimed at the ram, mosfets and southbridge.

Also when i look at cpu-z the ram uses some odd timings 4-2-3-2. I hope u can help me solve this.

EDIT: i just flashed 1/31 from bigtoe. Now i can't get into windows because the pc wil only boot with every single bios option to default and stock....

Ok thx for the tip. I just installed my barton and know everything seems to work. Its stable and i can choose mp and fsb.

The main thing is i want to run my mobile on this board. I think i should have done the l12 mod on the dfi first. My normal barton tops out at 2.6 ~ 2.7ghz with 250fsb (11-2-2-2 :D). I want 3.1ghz and 250fsb... Any more suggestions, cuz i've done the flashing already (three different bios' so far)

If you've flashed to the 6/19 BIOS, I'd suggest trying your mobile again to see if it behaves any better.

load optimized defaults

save and exit

power down

unplug psu

remove battery

move cmos jumper to clear

swap cpu's

plug psu in

replace battery

move cmos jumper to run

boot to bios

load optimized defaults

save and exit

When you boot again check the bios to see what it set for you mem timings and stuff. If it looks okay.... try windows again.

I would have to say that the 4-2-3-2 timings are probably part of your problem and you might want to try bumping your chipset voltage up to 1.7v.

Ok i downloaded the bios (6/19 official) I normally use maxed out voltage except for agp(1,7) and vdd(1,8). Its so weird, with this barton i didn't fase any problems at all and with the mobile i have loads of problems. Do u think the cpu was damaged during the process? I can hardly imagine that but what do you think.

So... did the 6/19 BIOS help anything? Did the mem timings still come up weird? Did you try changing them to 11-2-2-2? Are you trying any voltages other than max for your cpu and ram?

I would suggest that you start with your voltages and speeds near stock.... and then lowly work your way up.
