bjanssen Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Hi all, I have seen lots of people guessing on the web, but no one that has actually tried! Does the Zalman 7000 or 7700 fit on the DFI nf4 Ultra-D board? Does it block any of the memory slots? If anyone has any idea, please please post Thanks. BJ. Sleepy Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Hi all,Does the Zalman 7000 or 7700 fit on the DFI nf4 Ultra-D board? Does it block any of the memory slots? BJ. I was wondering this earlier myself and eventually tried. But I can only speak for Zalman 7000B-AlCu that I have and.. similar 7000-series models. - Fits nicely but partially blocks the closest memory slot (4). Just put your memory in before installing 7000. Also the closest PCIE slot (PCIE2, not a graphics slot) is very close to being blocked. I mean a short card would fit but longer would not. It is a very close call though - maybe a long card would fit too. 7000 does not block graphics slots, 7700 might. - Use provided Zalman backplate, NOT the DFi backplate. This means removing the retention bracket and the dfi backplate and then installing Zalman backplate. It works just fine. If you try to use dfi backplate with zalman, the screws don't quite reach, don't hold well and may cause other problems. - If your 7000/7700 package does not include a zalman backplate, contact zalman. They are very helpful and most likely will send you a backplate by post. - Before setting the 7000 on: Make a nice even surface of heat grease on the processor as instructed. If you don't spread it well you will get higher temps. I'm thinking buying some other, better, heat conductive grease thingy. With this my CPU idles around 37 C (according to bios, not overclocked yet). Could be lower. I hope this helps.. if you didn't find help somewhere else already.. since nobody here responded. I thought I should. Good luck with it.
roib Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 hi bjanssen ! I have a zalman 7700 AlCu and it fits the board nicely. The only glitch with it is that it blocks the access to ram slot #4 so you must install the memory before setting the heatsink. A problem may occur if you have tall modules with heat spreaders - they might be in the 7700's way and make it impossible for you to install it. I see a 5mm (give or take) gap from my gskill to 7700. I heard some worries regarding the distance between the 7700 and the video card, well there shouldn't be - there's at least 1 cm between them. Hope that helps to clear things up a bit. Tyson95 Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 Isn't the closest PCIE slot (PCIE2, not a graphics slot) blocked then?! Yes, it also blocks the floppy type power connector on the board. I think I'm going to get rid of mine.

n_w95482 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 I have a few pictures of a 7700 on my Ultra-D system on my website. It is a pain in the butt to get the floppy connector plugged in when the heatsink and a video card are installed but it is possible. You can also insert RAM into the closest slot to the socket, although you have to install it at an angle (like a 72-pin SIMM). I'm sure people will yell at me for doing that, but meh, the slot is still in good condition .
