SATA Raid problem w/ DFI NF4 Ultra-D

Recommended Posts

Hello, Long time LURKER... First time poster.

have a new DFI Ultra-D, 3000+ w/ stock cooling, 2x256 GSkill "LA" DDR600 and 2 x SATA drives, MSI 6600GT, OCZ 420w Powerstream.

It posts no problem I can get into the bios no problem.

I can see my SATA drives in the bios, I can create a healthy array. When I start windows install I load the RAID drivers from the floppy provided with the mobo.

When it gets to the screen where you select to install windows or repair. ANY choose gives me a STOP ERROR screen with corrupt file info and the text about stopping to avoid damage.

I dont have anymore info... I need to write down what the error says, the machine is at home and I dont have a spare at home currently. I still need to re-check everything is hooked up properly. Anybody got any ideas? Am I missing something in setting up the SATA's in RAID? The SATA's are plugged into ports 1 & 2. I still have more testing to do just thought maybe I could try and find more answeres before tonight when I wont have access to the internet.

Thanks

Hello, Long time LURKER... First time poster.

Thanks

The first thing you need to do is qualify your system. Make a bootable memtest floppy or CD and run it on each stick of RAM then on both sticks together. That kind of error indicates a memory error most times.

I would also start simple with just the RAM, CPU, video and an optical or floppy drive when testing the RAM. Once you get to the point that you know the RAM is good then you can start adding components.

Start simple and work your way up as you are successful.

@clockedOut. I totally agree with ExRoadie in that it is more than 90% a memory problem. Perhaps only a single stick in the slot labeled as #2 would assist in the loading of windows. But either way you are way ahead of the game if you memtest the memory and know then that it is up to par. I doubt it is bad memory just that the multitude of settings using mostly "auto" can be less refined than they should be and hence what certainly appears a memory related problem.
