red930 Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 Trying to help a friend that just installed the nF4 drivers on his nF3 mobo. He realized what he had done after he shut down and before he powered back up. Does anyone have an idea just what he has done. Has he killed his Windows install or will it reboot with errors and allow him to recover. He always does a system restore point before updating(don't we all). Will these drivers work when installed on an nF3 motherboard? I would have thought the install would fail on an nF3 motherboard but he swears he didn't get any messages. I won't be able to get to his machine until later Sunday so any help is greatly appreciated.

Guest culinist Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 Can he enter safe mode? If so with command prompt option you can enter: %systemroot%system32restorerstrui.exe
red930 Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 I made an image of his drive then booted off the spare. Safemode then restored his previous configuration. He's back up and running. I should have let it try to boot just to see what happened. Practicing for the Computer Darwin Awards.
cpuz Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Quite frankly, I'm surprised that the install even completed. I would have thought the install would have looked for some sign of nforce 4 setup and when not seen, that it wouldn't install. soundx98 Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 well lot of reports of them (or parts of them) working on nf2 and nf3 boards (including my LPB - not sure of ethernet cause I'm using the Realtek) Pretty good reading and comments over here http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/viewtopic....der=asc&start=

It looks like someone with ability should put a remix together so we can take advantage of the stuff that works. Thanks for the link sound. soundx98 Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Important notice. do not install the network driver from this package on a nf2 MB. The drivers are meant for the built in firewall and specialised network features on the nf4 mb.
