jikdoc Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 i'm having massive problems getting my new dfi board to work. i've got the sli-dr revision A01, flashed to the 0201 bios. raptor raid0 attached to sata1,2, tried both ocz vx and 4200el in dimm slots 2,4. vapoLS on the cpu, x850xtpe watercooled. zippy 700w psu. when i try to install windows, it randomly reboots as it begins copying files. furthermore, when i try to enable the 5v vdimm settings, following the instructions in the manual, (change cpu vcore, turn off power, unplug, move jumper, ...) the computer can't even post. the fans try spinning up but shut down as if there wasn't enough power. i've got the molex and floppy connector attached. i've spent the better part of 24hours trying to debug this and at this point i've given up. i've reinstalled the vapo 2x now, no evidence of condensation, the wc isn't leaking. i can't explain the random reboots and inability to post with 5v settings. Smoken Joe Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 Try increasing the Fan speed in bios. It dosnt run at full speed untill it hits 100 at stock settings. I also decreased the memory below 400 even though it passes memtest. This was the second time I tried decreasing the memory so it should not be the problem. nSaNe Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 not sure but a vapoLS on the CPU shouldnt need a fan at all... since it prolly never evens sees -10 degrees @ load.
Angry_Games Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 please check the rules and the Important Info threads stuck to the top of this section, paying close attention to the second post in teh 'critical' thread (about system specs in your sig). this helps us tremendously to help you solve your issue if we can see what is in your system every time you post. Be as thorough as possible please. Voltages, timings, settings, bios version. The more information you give us about the problem, and the more details about your hardware in your sig = more help we can give you. jikdoc Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 signature updated with rig specs, everything is at stock volts and frequencies. i'd like to know if anyone is having problems with getting the 5v jumper to work. my rig won't post, the fans start but stop immediately. i'm using a zippy-6701 700w psu. system boots fine with regular settings. pantonious Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 well, just to rule out your PSU...unplug everything that is not nessesary...like your hard drives and CD drives and floppy drive...just leave with is needed for it to post and see if that makes a difference... jikdoc Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 i checked my rails with a voltimeter, 3.33 = 3.38, 5 = 5.13, 12 = 12.13 so it should work..
PGBK Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 I'd found out those motherboard fan are make to slow start upon booting....it would go into full force once loaded into windows....that's because i attach a led tru the cpu fan socket since i m on w/c and i saw it dimm n glow every time... I'd never switch to 5v rail on 0201 but it works on 0125 though when i was trying to troubleshoot my tccd problem....so maybe a bios issue again ?? Were you talking about my post? Northbridge= chipset not CPU. If you found way to cool that without a fan let me know! When it is going fast enough to keep the NB even moderatly in line it is annoying as h. It the MB says stable enough too keep I am going to replace that fan one way or another. It was unstable without it on high durting windows install.
jikdoc Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 i've got a zippy-6701, it's a 700w psu but i'm thinking it might not be providing enough power for the mobo to boot with the 5v setting. i noticed if i add another hard drive at 3.3v setting it has the same strange mobo boot problems. i didn't think it could be the cpu since the computer was running fine with a 520watt psu on nf3 system. the rails on the zippy have more amps than the previous 520 i had. i've got a molex and fdd power connector attached to the mobo, is it possible this is causing too much of a drain on bootup? i'm only running 1 gfx card so is it ok to unplug them? What CPU are you running. Seems 90nm Winchesters can get real bitchy about running lower than -40C or so on other NF4 MB's. Massive instability or no boot is the common result.
