DOA UT 250Gb?

Recommended Posts

I received my board today and installed it without much luck. When I plugged the PSU in the PSU would just make a noise and pushing the power button did nothing. I removed everything except the CPU and ram and tried plugging the CPU in again and it just made the same high pitched noise (the LEDs on the motherboard were partially lit up). After I unplug the power the power from the PSU and board fades and just before the power is gone the LEDs light up fully and then turn off. Even without the CPU and Ram the PSU makes this noise when I plug in the power cord (with the ATX and 12v connectors plugged into the board). So I put the CPU and memory back on my old board (Epox 8KDA3+) and it all boots up just fine. I tried a CMOS reset on the DFI and even took it out of the case to make sure that no connections where being made from the case.

AMD64 3200+

Ut NF3 250Gb

Kingston PC-3000 (2x512mB)

ATI 9800NP 128Mb

Antec PP412X PSU

DOA? Or does anyone have any ideas?

Does this video card have a power connector on it? If so, have you plugged it in? Don't know much about ATI!

so did you use the same psu on the epox board w/ no problems?

Yes, and I am running the PSU right now with my epox board and the same setup... just lacking the DFI.

Yes it does, and yes it was and is plugged in :)

Reminds me of problems with my 9700PRO AIW and my NF2. Try another videocard, might be vidcard/mobo imcompatibility.

The system should at least power on without the video card in the AGP slot, but it doesn't. My Epox board powers on without the video card, so it must be the board.

No it might not even power up. When your machine powers up, your videocard might be drawing too much current which makes it impossible for the machine to boot.

I had this problem with my NF7 and had to install a switch on the 5V wire going to the power connector on the videocard.

This way I could delay for a second the power sent to the videocard, thus enabling the mobo to boot.

Better power supply won't help either.

It won't boot with the video card removed. I am taking the video card out of the equation and it still won't power on. The board just needs the CPU/Ram to power on.
