odeboo Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Ok guys and ladies, please look at my sig and advice me on what ram I should be looking at in order to reach 2.6-2.7. Something less than $300 would be in the right spending limit. I am maxed out with my present ram and am getting 17000 errors with 2 sticks in memtest #5. No errors when using either stick. Have tried all the combinations of ram slots and am only running 1 stick of 512 mb at 2.5, 3,3,8. 1T. Maybe I'm just wishing but would not mind trying to reach these clock speeds. Thanks in advance. Socket 754 is not dual channel processor, so you might be asking a lot from the onboard memory controller. Try relaxing your timing, for example: 2.5-3-3-X X= anything between 8 to 11 see if that helps. If not relax the other timings 3-3 one at a time . Find your stable Ram speed with 2 sticks, then from there go up and tweak by relaxing timing.
psy^ Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Ok guys and ladies, please look at my sig and advice me on what ram I should be looking at in order to reach 2.6-2.7. Before you go shell out for new memory, i'd have a play with the RAM dividers and see if you can get the CPU to 2.6-2.7GHz with the memory at a speed you know it to be stable. No point spending hundreds of bucks if the CPU is close to it's limit
cpuz Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Right, if you 're looking for timings for your current ram, than bb is right. This should work for you. What I like about my ram, is that if you later decide to go skt 939 your all set to run dual channel too.
Arcane Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 you should be able to achieve 2.6 with the RAM you have now...you're gonna have to really loosen your timings though and up the voltage. go to 1.7 or even 1.85 if possible. for timings you're probably look at 3-4-4-10 or maybe even some 5's in there. i don't know how the corsair value series act, but the XMS ones i have in my other box don't o/c too well. if you're insistent on getting new RAM, OCZ's 2-2-2-5 mem(don't remember the exact name) can reach 550+MHz and the timings are good, not great. The lowest timings with the highest overclock goes to Crucial's Ballistix. I can get mine to 221MHz on 2-2-2-5. It's by far the easiest overclocking RAM i've ever had. Angry_Games Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 if your Corsair is the TCCD stuff (XL?) then it should easily go pretty high...getting 2.6Ghz out of these cpu's is never a given...and just because someone else can do it doesn't mean your cpu will do it (always keep that in mind when reading replies by other users) a mobile on the other hand, can generally (the rule here is GENERALLY, not ALWAYS) hit 2.6Ghz-ish if you are looking for different RAM, here's some TCCD that I can highly recommend that other users have had great things to say about: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-231-006&depa=1 any TCCD on this page should do you good: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?...rtby=14&order=
odeboo Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Thanks for your input. Have read each of them and presently am at: 258*10 with 9/10 ratio. 3.3.3.7 1T with only one stick of 512mb. This is stable and have no errors with memtest thru several passes. Will continue to experiment this week-end and see if I can get these settings to work with 2 sticks. If all else fails have bookmarked Angry_Games links just in case. Thanks again for your responses. You guys make me feel that your concerned about my success and or failure. What an elite group of folks on this site.
