Poisonsnak Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 I have an LP-B and I'm buying one of the new boards (probably Ultra-D being an ATI fan) and I want to move my array to the new board. But somehow I don't think RAID is 'standardized' and I won't be able to just plug it into the nvraid controller. So my second question is: the SLI-DR has an SiI 3114 chip on it just like my LP-B, but this chip is somewhat different having RAID 5 support. Will my array work on that controller? If it won't work on the nvraid but will on the SiI then I will probably get the SLI-DR instead of the Ultra-D.
THunDA Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 Your changing chipsets.. I would recommend a fresh install.. Its ALWAYS the best option.. GL with the new mobo..
uwackme Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 But if you must, get a $20 Sil3112 PCI card, move raid0 to that first in current system, then pick board/card/disks up and move to new DFI. You'd want to use drivercleaner to kill off all current NVidia/ATI drivers just before final poweroff. Though risky, it is not an impossible transition, but the $20 card is required..... so a bootable driver/disk situation exists on the new system. Otherwise just moving the sata disks, there is NO NF4 driver on it to know HOW to boot off the disk. In the DFI NF4 you would set to boot off PCI "SCSI" board in the bios. Poisonsnak Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Hmm thanks guys. The set is just for data storage, I plan to put my OS on a somewhat smaller drive so formatting doesn't require so much backing up. Man putting windows on a 400GB array just was a bad idea. Oh well I can take my computer to work and mooch small amounts of space from various computers' hard drives hehe. And now that I know this my Ultra-D has officially been pre-ordered! Now all I have to do is count the minutes hehe.

Poisonsnak Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 You bet! I'm not abandoning my LP-B yet though I think with the mobile CPU and soundstorm audio it will make an excellent HTPC. Ordered an XP-120 also so I should be able to get a few MHz out of it hehe. Hey THunDA where did you get your PSU? I am having a hard time finding them, no local shops have them and my usual online order place ncix.com does not carry them either. My Antec 380 is only 20-pin and 18A on 12V so I don't think it will handle the new board very well.
THunDA Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 Honestly.. I dont remember where I got the psu.. its been a while, but I think I ordered it straight through pc power and cooling.. And I also havent abandoned my Infinity.. she runs 230x10 for my quiet internet browsing computer..hehe
