red930 Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 My psychotic Antec True Blue 480 was nearing the end of its RMA period. I had been holding out hoping that Antec had corrected their little problem with this unit. I waited so long that I had to RMA just to keep from losing my original investment. Has anybody gotten one recently? Do they seem to hold up any better than the early production units? If I end up with another PSU with the same problems I guess I'll use it as a spare or stick it in a computer with very low power requirements. It just seems such a waste. Spritzup Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Whoa!! What problems are you talking about? I'm running the same power supply and I haven't heard of any problems.
red930 Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Whoa!! What problems are you talking about? I'm running the same power supply and I haven't heard of any problems. I have had to replace 12 Antec True Blue power supplies in the last 9 months. All exhibited unstability in the 5V and 12V rails. None of them died outright or caused any problems with other components. A search of any of the larger forums will return threads regarding Antec power supplies. Antec had a sterling reputation for buildin a great PSU. Something happend over a year ago and several models have had intrinsic problems. The True Blue 480 is the only one of them I have experience with. As my earlier post stated I was holding on to one hoping to RMA it when the quality was back up to normal. Here's hoping we both are lucky.
Spritzup Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 My voltages (according to MBM) are: 3.3 = 3.19 5.0 = 4.92 12 = 11.89 With the exception of the 3.0 volt rail, these numbers look ok to me... what do you think?

"according to MBM" Sensor monitoring is not very accurate. You need to use a Digital Multi-Meter to get an accurate reading. You can pick up a really good one for under $20.00 at Radio Shack. Google for a color code to pick the lines you want to monitor.
soundx98 Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 ExRoadie right on target as usual. You do need a meter. I've read a lot of complaints regarding the Antecs lately. No, not dying, but acting very skitzoid and giving rebooting problems etc. Especially after heavy usage. The performance difference was amazing when I went to the OCZ 520. Got two 480s that are about a year old. No problems but they are hardly the top o the heap anymore.
Poisonsnak Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Even that 3.3V rail is excellent, it's at -3.33% and few power supplies offer 3% tolerance anyway. Are those voltages at full load though? If you have a way of loading your vid card and cpu and then measuring the voltages (ATITool comes to mind) I would do that. I find on my LPB that MBM's values are usually lower than what a DMM gives me (Fluke 70 series, it seems to work ok) but on my brother's (crappy) MSI motherboard it reports his 12V at like 12.2 when it's actually 11.6 (scary!) Colors and voltages: +12V - yellow +5V - red +3.3V - orange 0V / GND - black the other ones are not really important, though +5VSB is important for boot up and suspend related activities.
