Guest ElAguila Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 I am just starting on my 3400 Newcastle. I am currently running at 10x255. RAM settings are 2.5-3-3-8. My heatsink is an slk-948 bolt on with a 75cfm fan. It is prime stable. Idle temp is 32C and load is 39C. I am still at the default voltage. This seems like a really good chip. I might try taking it to 11x250. I will let you know how it turns out.
Guest shaolin95 Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 What are you using for cooling? Can you tell me your CPU week (id)? It seems everyone got a better chip than I :-( Hopefully its something else like my PS or heat...anyway the more you can tell me about your system the better. Did you really mean 11x250 from 10x255 thats a big jump.
Guest ElAguila Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 I had an 0416 originally and I had problems with high temp readings regardless of what I did to fix. I rma'd it and now I have an 0441. I am using the slk-948 bolt on heatsink. Your sig says your are using the stock heatsink. I would definitely replace that with either the slk-948, xp-120, xp-90, or the alpha 8150. The stock heatsink is not that great for overclocking. My power supply is an Aspire 520. I am going to try 11x250 after my arctic silver 5 sets good. I have a very cooled case. It is an xoxide ufo case. http://www.tommcdonald.net/images/front.jpg http://www.tommcdonald.net/images/side.jpg http://www.tommcdonald.net/images/top.jpg

Guest shaolin95 Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 What did you say to RMA it? Did they give you any problems?
Guest ElAguila Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 I told them that it was reporting high temps regardless of what I tried to lower them and they did give me any hassle at all. I sent it to them and they shipped me out a new one.
Guest shaolin95 Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Ok gonna think it over. Wanna make sure there is not something else wrong before doing it. You got PM. Regards
Guest ElAguila Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 When I had the 0416 I had a couple of long posts on different forums about the temps. When I had it I installed an xp-120 hs with a 75cfm fan and updated the bios to 9/14. Before updating the bios my idle temp was showing to be 58C. After updating it was showing 48-49C and the load temp was 60-61C and these temps were without overclocking. I reseated the heatsink at least 7 times and it still didn't help with the temps. I installed the slk-948 and still had high temps. Finally I rma'd the motherboard thinking that would fix the issue. Got the new mobo installed and I still had the same temps. The room where I have my computer stays at 23C. I had spoken with a friends and he said that the earlier newcastles had this problem. I decided to rma the cpu. I got the replacement and put it in and my idle temps were below 36C. I really think the temp issue is the cpu that you have. Guest shaolin95 Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 wow thats almost a carbon copy of my temps. I got 58C at bios with the stock bios. Then upgraded to 10/15 and now have like 47C at bios. Load (prime95) goes to 64 when OCed so I think there is a problem with that particular 0416 week. Gonna contact newegg. Chilll Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 HI guys..I had the same problem.my temps were 55C+ at idle. The heatsink never got hot it was always cold First I took off the heatsink(stock)cleaned offf all the compound with alcohol then applied Arctic Silver 5..next day my temps were around 46-48 at idle..Today I updated my bios to 9/14 beta..Now my temps show 35-37 idle cpu,PWMIC 34C and System 31C and the heatsink does get very warm..I was already to send my board back to newegg also..Like mine was bad readings due to bios.I know the Arctic Silver 5 help alot
Guest ElAguila Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 After updating to bios 9/14 my temps were idle at 46-48. Before updating they were at 56-58. A friend told me that they had a discussion in their computer user group and that the chips before week 32(I believe it was 32) had this temp issue. Now that I have a week 41 chip my temps are great. My idle temp now is 32 and I am oc'd whereas I wasn't oc'ing when I had the 0416 chip.
