Guest Gunnar Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Since setting up my new machine last weekend, I've been having some problems. Thought that I (with the help of others) had this narrowed down to the PSU, now I'm not sure. The first assemble, I was using a 420w psu that was supplied with a Kingwin case. When I initially plugged it in, nothing. No leds...period, on the mobo. My only resolution was to quick switch the input voltage from 115v to 230v and back again. At that point, the mobo was receiving power and I was able to boot. This had to be done every time the psu was disonnected from power. Blah, blah, blah...I had instabillity problems, difficulty loading windows, but finally acheived stability with only one stick of RAM in slot #1. I wanted to use the second stick and was advised that my psu was not up to task. Made sence to me. I picked up an Antec Neopower 480, as the reviews are all good. I assumed that this would correct my instability and the initial problem with the PSU. Apparently I was wrong. The Neo has been installed and reinstalled. The connections are correct, but again...no leds when I plug it in. The psu automatically detects voltage, so I cant "bump" it as before. I have no idea what to do. Help please! Thanks in advance. cpuz Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 The Neo has been installed and reinstalled. The connections are correct, but again...no leds when I plug it in. You mean the leds on mobo? You are not getting any power or fans don't come on? I suppose you populated both dim slots? Which ones? Please be more descriptive. Thanks. Guest Gunnar Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Correct. The lights on the mobo. The one below the pci slots and the one by the RAM. Originally, I had ram in DIMM 1 & 3. I've tried all configs and only found stability using slot 1. Power to the motherboard is the main problem. The new psu was supposed to correct the RAM issue, but power on the board is the main problem.
Guest Gunnar Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Oh, sorry. No the fans do not come on. PSU, CPU or the 3 case fans. The cpu fan is conntrolled through the mobo, but the case fans are connected straight into the powersupply.
cpuz Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 so you are not getting any power to the board w/ two sticks of ram?
Guest Gunnar Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 One or two. I've tried both configs
David Stewart Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 What happens when you hit the built-in reset/power button on the mobo? DS

David Stewart Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Hmmm. Is there any way to test the ps out on another system? DS

This mainbord is really a bad investment  I came from 2 Epox without any problem, while with DFI I have similar problem me too. The unique difference is that if I leave the psu connected to the power I am able to boot at cool, while if during the night I leave the power switched off, I have to switch off the psu too (rear button) otherwise the pc does not boot  I am seriously thinking to scrap this mobo and go back to Epox! Cheers Max!

Sorry you have had problems also, but this is not a common problem. There is a way to solve it. If all troubleshooting routes are exausted, then you can always RMA the board and try again. Epox may be a better board to you, but there are many out there that feel the same way about Epox as you do DFI right now. No mobo manufacturer is going to have any more than about a 90% happy customer base at best, looks like you've made up your mind to be in the 10%. Good Luck DS
Guest Gunnar Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 I could tomorrow, but it's not the psu. I had the same thing happen with the 1st one. That one had a voltage selector which trigger the board.
