Hope you guys can figure this out!

I already Sent this to techsupport at dfiweb.com. I was looking at the reviews on newegg and saw this site. So I'll post up my problem here too.

"Ok I have been having a bunch of problems with this motherboard in the

past 3 months. Before that it ran great! I love this board. But now

randomly one day it stopped reading my SATA drives. So it took a while

but I finnaly fixed it with a BIOS update. Now that works. It reads

the SATA drives fine. Ok now my main problem now is it wont boot

windows at all. I know for a fact and have tested that my cd-rom

works, hard drive, ram, cpu, and the Windows cd works. I also know

that the cables work fine. The problem is when I went to reinstall

windows since it wont boot anymore it just frezes before the format

hard drive screen. The part after it loads all the stuff into memory.

So I can't install windows at all. I also tried to install linux. It

installed fine but when I go into it, it gives me a kernel panic

saying something about the boot sector. As far as BIOS go I updated

them to the latest and also rolled back to the original. Still don't

wont. I also redid the CMOS by taking out the battery. That doesn't

work either.

Any ideas? Could I return it to DFI and get a new one? I have never

overclocked the computer. I would really love to get this fixed so I

dont have to buy another board.

Thanks for your time,

Chris Erickson

have you tried formatting the HDD from dos with a floppy disk ?

try that then run scan disk as well... if it is a large HD scanning it will take a long time... but once it's done you will know for sure that ur HD is in good shape.

Okay i will take a stab at this.....;)

Since you updated the bios your hardware might not like the new settings in it for a start. ie the memory settings, you should try setting them manually too 11,3,3,3,2.5 etc.......also the voltages might not be high enough so you should try something a little higher ie, vcore 1.75/agp 1.7v/ chipset 1.7v/vdimm 2.9v-3.0v, see if that makes a difference, also make sure you have Sata raid enabled to boot from also in the genie setup......set your memory at 1:1 ratio as well.....

Was concentrating on the bios as that is what you have changed so you should also check the LBA setting or something as the dfi bios defaults to something or other that messes up booting, there is some problem there that i have read here i think there is more info in the front of the forum in the sticky threads.....

Are you using the newer 1007 Sil windows driver and loading it using F6 at the beginning of install from floppy?

If you still have have problems installing winblows then yes i would try and do a low level format on the Sata drives as that fault linux picked up on does not sound good, i would pull 2 sticks of ram and only go with one untill you get winblows on there them add them back one at a time testing them with memtest to check they run cool with no errors......

Thats all i can think off for about now dude, hope you get it sorted as i can relate too R&R (reformat & reinstall) just spent 3 days trouble shooting my 3 rigs and one of them is a UI....:(...GLuck
