Power Supply?

Recommended Posts

Hey, im doing some major changes to my case and ive got 11 LEDS (with a 470 ohm resistor) wired up and ready to go and 8 cooling fans with a few potentiometers to adjust the speed (just popped into my head one day)! Now my question is, will my 115v power supply be enough for all this? im not too worried about the LEDS, but what about the fans?

lol, afford it....no, i can't! Its got a magic button in the back to double the voltage to 230v, but i don't wanna play with that cause when i had a household of working parts (from my dads work) then i could just take n e thing i wanted or whatever and use them! So i took a whole computer one day and flipped that switch and, well, did ya ever wonder where i got the extra case? lol! So unless someone can give me detailed information on how i can use that to help me without frying the motherboard then i don't wanna touch that again!

it has NOTHING to do with the voltage.....

that is the input....

USA = 110/115v

Europe, etc. 240v (or so)

what you need to worry about is the output wattage of the PSU... ie: is it a 300watt PSU? that is OK for a base system, but start adding stuff and it may not be enough..

hi power, lots of extras.. start looking in the 400w or greater area....

i don't know EXACTLY what your saying but i think i have some type of idea, where would i find the output watage? im sorry but im only 15 and i don't have a college or university education yet! I just learned everything i know (witch is enough to build a computer, overclock, etc.) from my dad whose a computer administrator and technition for 12+ years

it really all depends on the ps look on the side and it should say something like output wattage or look for something like 300w or 400w its ok not everyone has a college degree theirs alot of 15 year olds in here if you hang around long enough you learn alot of crap from here welcome to the club.

THanks for the welcome justinal! Ok, and i found the output wattage on my power supply! Its a 200w switching power supply! im guessing that the switching part means the switch between the 115v input and the 230v input but i could be wrong! now, with that said, should i hood up the rest of my fans or was all this just a waste of time?

That is low wattage for adding lights to, but it depends... what CPU do you have.. and older one or newer one...

if it is a bit older, you may be OK.. if it is a P4 or a newer AMD, you may run into stability issues....

Welcome to the group... there are all ages here.. I think I am one of the older farts around but we are a good group!

oh and yes.. the 200w is its output power.......

if you really dont care to much about the computer play with it youll teach your self alot by playin but watch out for the older ps they dont just cut off when you do something wrong they burn up so if you need help with anything even if its about an old computer just ask.

lol, well its nice to know that there are people of all ages! Im really glad i found this site with all these people with the same interests as me! :D! But yea, i know 200w is low, i see posts from people around here with 400w outputs and everything! its pretty crazy! but yea, i do have a pretty old CPU! its a pentium MMX 250mhz (its overclocked...max as far as ive seen, if somone knows how to overclock it more then let me know, ive just changed the voltage jumpers, BUS FREQ., and one other one but i don't member what it was....and in the bios theres no FSB settings or n e thing as far as i can tell)

I can't wait though because everytime my dad updates his PC i get his parts and hes updating it sometime within 2 weeks! lol, can't wait to get my hands on the P3 700mhz 512 mb RAM and 40 gig harddrive! BIG difference from what i have now!

if ur dads getting a dell (or simmilar) the forget OCing it - unless your really good with registry hacks.

also - if you dont have a seting in your bios for FSB - download FSBCPU from the downloads section of this site - you can change it from there - also in case you dont already have it you might want to download MotherBoardMonitor 5 (also in the downloads section) to keep tabs on your temps so you wont fry your comp
