Well its not one large radi 0 array its two seperate ones, one on each controller. Im getting about 110mb/s avg read in hdtach with the seagates and 100mb/s avg read with the raptors.

i'm using 16/4 for my raid setup as reading through here seemed to suggest the 4:1 ration was best. didn't have the time to try larger mixes like 32:8, etc. wouldn't think any overhead would make you drop. matter of fact i always thought that a larger RAID0 array would render better speeds. maybe you need to try a larger stripping mix. some guys are using 64:16 with nice results from my reading around.

at first i was thinking the density of my platters was getting me some good results but you have the rmp speeds like crazy so that should keep you way ahead of me.

Here's a screenie of 3x80gb Hitachi 3.0 and 1x80gb WD 1.5 all in stripe, 4kb stripe size. http://www.knightsguildbattalion.com/kgb/d...d4benchmark.jpg

What's odd though is the Sata controller properties in Device Manager is showing the 80gig WD as Serial ATA Generation 2 - 3G. I'm pretty darn sure it's only a Sata 1.5.

How does a 4k stripe do with large files?

Well, I have a new question regarding RAID Bios. Standard that I've seen is 4.84. I do not have a floppy drive, so I was wondering if it's possible to update it when i integrate my SATA RAID drivers via nLite. This would sure make things better. So, can anyone answer?

Do you guys use a floppy drive at all? What RAID bios version are you using?

Id sorta like to know what he did differantly from me, but then again maybe not. I have the 4 hitachi's and avg 121 mbs, but my line is so much flatter. I get the ocasional bump in the line. Like 9 bumps for a 300 gig read. I see were this guy is reading 40mbs faster then i, but man is that a crazy looking line.

I just finished adding 2 more Hitachi 7K80's SATA 300 GB/s to my setup. Added the data to my .. ahem... "database" (shameful to call it that, I should really at least convert it to Excel). But there's a lot of solid data there for researchers.

I'd love some info on why my speed line is all over the place, not smooth like others (I'm guessing non-empty disk, and possibly not getting ideal 300 GB/s mode due to crappy SATA cables. If I move one of them it loses the drive, has to be taped down just right.)
