DFI-Blues Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 I currently have 2x 256 matched memory and wish to add a 512 stick. So do i put the 512 in slot 1 and 256 in slot 2 & 3 to keep 128 bit mode? Slot 1 nearst cpu is channel 0 & slot 2 & 3 is channel 1 right? Also is there any performance difference with running this way with 3 sticks vs just two 512 matched sticks?
Angry_Games Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 two slots together = 2x256 lone slot by itself = 512 that way you will get Dual Channel (but if you overclock you will not see the same great clocks in this configuration)
DFI-Blues Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 I'm still unclear which two dim slots share the same channel. If i get this wrong and use 512 & 256 in the same channel i will be running 128 bit & 64 bit simitaniously. If i get it right with a 512 in one channel and the two 256 in the other channel everything will run 128 bit. So does dim 2 & 3 (slots farthest from cpu) share the same channel? Angry_Games Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 lol look on the board see the two DIMM slots that are together (away from the other 3rd DIMM that isn't right next to those two that are together)? thats where your 256MB sticks go. Together. the one all by itself is where the 512MB goes. This gives you dual channel if your memory all works with each other. (DIMMs 1 + 2 = 256MB modules DIMM 3 = 512MB module)
