tweakmaster420 Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 hi, well in my year of owning the nf2 b i have never had to ask for help for what apears to be a serious problem, the other day , after doing a norton live update, i restarted my pc, then noticed that not all the tray icons were loading up.. this promted me to do my quarterly reinstall of XP early. well when i did the reinstall i decided to load it up using the raid config without seting up an array . an attempt/experiment to see if i could squeeze a little more performance out of the SLOW 3114 controller.... well i installed windows 6 times last night with various problems..first problem: first reinstall my usb add in card wasnt detected (nec 2.0) i tried: 1.clearing the cmos for 20 min with bat out. no sucess 2.remove card and reseat, still not detected.(in the 4th slot down from the agp) 3.removed card and put in very bottom pci. detected... hmmm... so now i took it out all together...for now.. Now, next install (without add in card) im gettin BSOD, i have NEVER got one of these since win2000. it said somthing about irq not equal or less than..and it did a memory dump, and restarted... so i contuinued to clear the cmos and reinstall same thing,,, always started happening after i installed the drivers for the last piece of hardware (audigy2zs) i have unticked the restart on error so i can note the whole error next time.. (update) what do any of you know about the newer usb 2.0 drivers on the lanparty site? i just removed those and installed the older 2.0 drivers and havent got BSOD "YET" i was using the 7/28 bios, but went back to the 11/27 bios (my board likes it better). now im about to put the usb 2.0 card back in and see if it works in the original slot... is there somthing about those usb 2.0 drivers that i dont know? as the problem was repeatable with those drivers installed.. will update if i get BSOD with old usb drivers... thanks for any sugestions..... i know what im doing here, but been troublshooting it all night... hopefully i found the prob,,, thanks.. kevin
RGone Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 I see tweakmaster420 and perhaps the name is a dead giveaway? You read what you wrote? It is quite informative once you are away from the happenings and just read what you wrote. Words like Norton Live and them thinking most folks have SP2 most likely never for a minute thinking someone might still be on SP1. decide, load, config, no array, squeeze. Those are very descriptive by themselves when related to a decision. I was using 7/28 my board likes 11/27 'best'. UsB2.0 new fails so far earlier driver works. Good move. If you are by chance on SP2 and not SP1 like I think> then UsB drivers should not be loaded the driver is in SP2 so they say. You see any pattern there at all? Just like most occurrances. Working fine until I decide to update it and then all h*ll breaks loose. RGone...
tweakmaster420 Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 ahh,, but i was not desciptive enough,,,lol.. i tried both bios and stuck with the 11/27 as the 7/28 i been using for the last six months,, but could not oc with it .. so i took the oportunity to flash back to the good ol 11/27.. now as far as the usb driver thing....i opted to use SP1 this time.. i know this board pretty good,, just somtimes takes patients/trial and error.. just thought i might get some opinions/sugestions.... but as far as my NEC usb 2.0 add in card not workin in that slot,, thats next to figure out.. also to note,, when i had the 7/28 bios and cleared the cmos,, i would get the checksum error... and even a device id dont match error durring boot up...after i put 11/27 back, that went away. i use the add in card for my internal usb plug for the cf reader.. going to put in now and see.... and all i was wanting to do was update my virus defs...lol im going back to norton 2003, never had wierd problems with it like it re-enabling auto-protect when i disable it for a reason...lol and i always re-install xp every 4-6 months.. kevin (edit) put the usb card in the original slot and it works too.. RGone Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 (edit) put the usb card in the original slot and it works too.. I heard that man and dang fine too. HEhehehehe. My dad used to run NAV and my brother too. Know when I would get calls for help from them? Right after they got thru updating Norton and them utilities. Yep and the longer they used it the worse it got. Got em both on Avast and they never miss a beat. And what is so strange is my dad started back when the zero or one was kept in a coil the size of a nickle. We talking he has been around computers since it took punch tape to boot them up and my brother has a college degree and does IT work for his own customers. But you know who gets the call when their shett don't work? Hale man the first two guess don't count. The MS red-nake X-mechanic that likes his puters balls to the wall. RGone...
