Overclocking N00b

brews

Recommended Posts

So I just built a new system: Athlon Barton 3000+, Abit NF7s mobo and an innovatek 2 water cooling system. I've overclocked by bumping up the multiplier and fsb before but I know I can squeeze more out of my system by bumping up voltage etc but I can't seem to find any info on how to go about doing it systematically and I don't want to fry my system. Can anyone point me in the right direction or give me some helpful hints on how to go about doing this correctly?

Generally to up the voltage, its just a setting in the BIOS called core voltage or CPU voltage or something to that extent. Just make small increments at a time, and watch the temperature of your CPU. I believe that a voltage that is 1.85 is starting to get kinda high and not to go over that if possible otherwise you may risk cooking the chip. Remember that you may have to bump the voltage of the RAM as well, depending on what speed it is rated at and whatnot. RAM can make your system unstable if its not cooled properly too. Hope this helps a bit

Thanks for the info. One other question. How do I recognize when I've gotten the most out of multiplier/fsb oc'ing and I need to start turning up the voltage and when turning up the ram voltage should it be a 1:1 ration with turning up the core voltage?

im just saying this but in some program, i forget which it had colors red for high yellow for getting high and grey for normal, and for my 2100+ pally it had 1.8V as yellow so i have it at 1.75 and it runs fine.
