Master Zer0 Posted June 15, 2001 Posted June 15, 2001 Then what do you think the HALT command does?
jodynicH Posted June 17, 2001 Posted June 17, 2001 it stops your computer, yet your processor still runs, so that wont work, will it?
Guest GAbOS Posted June 27, 2001 Posted June 27, 2001 ACPI does the same thing. But if its not enabled tru CPUCool. Shareware(not cripleware) ap that helps use those idle cpu processes better. But Ive heard instenses where running it in conjunction with ACPI enabled will cause temps to rise. Make sure your ambient ccase air is cool. Remember that your heatsink fans can only get as cold as the air thats cooling it is.
Guest Meth Posted September 1, 2001 Posted September 1, 2001 Along the lines of cooling idle software. There is Rain, Waterfall, and if you have an ASUS mobo the ASUS website had a idle cooling program. I dont remember where the site for Rain and waterfall was though. Guest Nocturne Posted September 1, 2001 Posted September 1, 2001 The HLT command was used back in the days of the k6-2 and similar processors. It would fill up idle clocks to reduce temps. In newer computers, it actually increases the temps.
Guest Binky Posted September 2, 2001 Posted September 2, 2001 Here's some links... CPUIdle - http://www.cpuidle.de/ Waterfall - http://www.tweakfiles.com/processor/waterfall.html Rain - http://www.tweakfiles.com/processor/rain.html Wincooler - http://www.tweakfiles.com/processor/wincooler.html BUT the thing about this kind of software is that it cools by taking things easy when the CPU is not busy. If you are doing processing-intesive stuff (like gaming, renderng 3D etc) the CPU is always busy, and the software will do nothing. Guest FreakyDrOverclock Posted September 13, 2001 Posted September 13, 2001 What good is a sw for, that slows down your cpu...i always thought people want their machines faster
bass_freak Posted November 17, 2001 Posted November 17, 2001 For those out thier who use software cooling, averythign i have ever used has not made much of a difrence, used a meg or 2 of my ran, 3-4% of my cpu, and didn't make a difrence in the temp. It did slow down my computer tho. I feel that a good fan and heat sink will always do (can get the volcano 6cu for $13, it is quit, coper core) much better, no matter what you are doing.
