Need Advice !!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently ordered a DFI Ultra Infinity for my Socket A. My Ole' Version 1 Asus A7N8X Deluxe, puked the onboard sound. My Gaming, hasn't been the same since . Well I Overclock and have been hearing plenty about DFI, on Overclockers.com. So I picked one up:D .

I have a few questions:

What Bios should I update to?

Will I have Memory Issues?

I have a Thermaltake Volcano 9, Can I use it?

I haven't got my new board yet, it's on order.

I just don't want any snags or glitches, during set-up.

Give me some suggestions guy

Thanks

your RAM should do 230MHz FSB easy (1:1, 2-2-2-11)

ANY socket cooler is 100% compatible (hole mount are another story)

BIOS? anything of the 6/19 series should be very good (modded or otherwise)

I would go with the latest official though and get a BIOS Savior just in case (and flash all BIOS to there)

I've heard of the 6/19 and I was leaning towards that.

I hope to make the ram work, my Asus A7N8X deluxe v 1.1 never really made them even sweat.

The Cooler I wasn't sure of, but I must make sure it works.....

I live in the sticks and no computer store in town supplies performance stuff, so I must order out of town.

I'd hate to have the board arrive and have to wait to put a good heatsink an fan on it.

Thanks Slavik for your reply.

with that memory you got in your signature you will LOVE Nforce 2 platforms and the DFI is the best nforce2 board out for overclocking! the volcano 9 will work. do you happen to know what stepping your processor is? how long ago did you buy it? is it unlockable!!! :) weeee

I am unsure of the stepping, but I do have lots of multipliers showing in the bios(6.5x-14.0x).

I'm currently at 191X10.5.

My Asus gets unstable past that, the V1.1 lost stability closer to 200Mhz, without the volt modding done to it. I was always bummed about that.. The memory never broke a sweat.

I'm not sure if it's a locked chip but I hope it's not. If so, I'll drop in the ole' 2100+Xp T-Bred B (303).

How can you tell, if you have a locked Barton anyways?

Hey, Thanks for your reply AndyA...

CPU-Z gives me:

Specification: Mobile AMD Athl

Family 6

Model A

Stepping 0

Ext. Family 7

Ext. Model A

The actual stepping is IQYHA0407XPMW

I don't know if those two translate to each other but I think the answer is no

Oh,

Well I guess I'll have to wait, till my new board comes to my door.

I'll check it out, when I swap the mobo's. I do have a 2100+Xp T-Bred B(303) as back-up though. I would be inrested in pushing that chip harder, my Asus just didn't do it....

But now, it's just a painful waiting game......
