HeAvYMaGZ Posted May 26, 2003 Posted May 26, 2003 hi people, Ive recently started overclocking, and not wanting to risk wrecking my current setup (until i get the hang of this, or until o/c addiction takes hold), ive picked up some old components to start my first 'project'. The main componenst are second user, Pentium 3 600E slot 1, Gigabyte GA-BX2000+ mainboard, 256mb kingston value PC133 X 4, i chose this cpu as it was the best value and seems to be a good overclocker, i also picked up a case, to save time switching the main guts when i want to access info on the web. Im using the GFX card from my current machine which is a Gainward GF440mx 128mb Redboard, along with my audio, 400wPSU as i ran out of funds to buy these. (the bloody bx2000+ has no onboard audio) So, thats what im starting with. Ive done some considerable research and have built a good knowledge base on these components, the system has been tested as 'stock', and everything is working fine(i wish i had this setup back in 2000, its not as good as then new breeds, but it still performs). Although i know im going to run into all kinds of roadblocks, ive read up on numerous how to's and i do understand then basics (on paper) and trial and error will undoubtedly be my motto, there are a few things i need help with before i get started. The first problem i can forsee happening is the CPU voltage, the board has auto-detect and that could cause some grief if i want to go beyond the 800 mark. does anyone know how i can get past this, i have read about the slot 1 trick of taping off pins i.e A121, B119 etc.........any ideas? The second problem does anyone have any info or tips on good cooling?, dig out them records on youre past projects!!!! The third problem, its not really a problem yet, but what agp clocks can the Intel 440BX chipset handle, and do you think the gf440mx will handle the end product? i think it should but will the chipset perform? Theoretically, the highest speed ill reach is 912mhz, as 152mhz is the hghest FSB that the board will supply Has anyone ever overclocked a coppermine 600? if so what did you use and what result did you get? Thats all i can think of right now for an intro, and you all may be peeing youre pants off for my choice of mainboard (it was really cheap, honest!), but like i said its just to get me familiar with this whole overclocking thing (or is it addiction?, ill soon find out eh So if anyone who reads this could be so kind as to help me........get hooked, with the issues ive mentioned, id be happy as hell. ill keep the progress posted and let you all know how i do. Thanks so much for reading, regards. Andrew
