hi all ndeed some advice please on how to get my vid card to run faster, firstly cooling shouldnt be an issue i have a arctic cooling 3 cooler fitted which also cools all the rams but i seem to max out at 454/418, the card is a radeon branded 9800xt with hyn ram chips i have seen a lot of folks on here with much higher clocks than thisso what am i doing wrong? voltage to the card is set at 1.6v if i recall, if i raise the ram even 1 point more then i get nasty yellow speckles in ati tool although the core seems happy to keep going up some more( have got 480 happily but i reduced it down to ensure it lives!) also is there any way to check the temp of the card in use that will let me see how much i am pushing it?, all the drivers are the latest but i havent got the latest cat control panel as i dont want .net on my system tried it hated it uninstalled it help please.

If you get the latest drivers from OmegaDrivers.net you ill not need .net installed and of course it comes with a lot of nice tools.

Fourth, I'm proud to announce that this is the FIRST DRIVER SET IN THE WORLD to incorporate fully working controls for the new ATI "AI" feature, and great part is, there is no need to install CCC or .NET in order to use it. ATI won't be releasing drivers with AI support until Cat 4.10 and I guess other "people" will start releasing drivers with support for AI now that my drivers are out, oh well, let's see IF they manage to make it run without CCC... ;)

Are you sure all yourmemory chips make good contact with the cooler? You got the 'weakest link syndrome' :P when it comes to memory. You can only run it as fast as the slowest chip wil let you.

hi mm dont understand you i dont use the omega drivers as last time i tried them i actually got a lower 3dmark score, yes the chips are making good contact what do you mean by weakest link? i thought the hynix chips were the best ones to have am i wrong hope not cause i looked long and hard for this particular card for the record my last 3do3 score done about 6 mins ago was 5989 is that comparable with others on here? bearing in mind the spec in my sig

I'm just saying that just like on a DDR memory stick, there is always one of the 8 chips on there that doesn't like to run as fast as the others. For instance if you have 7 Winbond BH-5 chips that can do 250Mhz FSB with 3.3v and 1 Winbond BH-5 chip that can do 240Mhz FSB at 3.3v and you put them all together on a single stick the max FSB that stick will do at 3.3v is 240Mhz FSB.

Pretty much the same with a GFX card. there are 8 chips on there. If one of them isn't making good contact with the cooler and because of that can't run as fast as the other chips , then the max memory speed of the card is set by that one chip. So that's why i asked you if all chips were making good contact. Because if one of them isn't, you might just as well not cool the others either. Omega Drivers should be a little bit faster. :P

For me they ussually are, but if you compare differend driver versions with each other the result might be differend.

For instance Catalyst 3.7 did really good on my system, both Omega and ATI. (Omega a little faster) But for instance 4.0 didn't perfrom as fast. So if i compared the 3.7 ATI driver with 4.0 Omega, then the ATI driver would be faster.

But the reason i mentioned the omega driver is because you don't need .net installed to use it with control panel. If you don't want to use it because it slows the gfx on your system if totally up to you. :)

ahh i see what youmean now mm but yes as i said they are all making good contact i actually checked when i installed the cooler by taking it off and checking the tim squish pattern and yes the card is the only thing on that particular lead from my psu but am still not able to get more than my first post yet theoretically ths card should do moreor am i expecting too much of it? i also have a 128 9800 radeon branded card in another rig that will easily clock to this ones standard settings and then some fitted with a similar cooler . i will have a go at upping the voltage a step and see how she goes, what about the temp monitering can it be done? or do i have to use an external probe?

A 9800XT should have a temp sensor, it uses that for the overdrive function.

Just not sure if there is a way you can read the sensor temp, but i would expect there is software available that shows you the temp. (If the ATI drivers don't have that build in already)
