Problems with Lanparty UT nF3 250Gb and Geil Ultra-X

Recommended Posts

I have a 1Gb set of Geil Ultra-X (2x 512Mb) in the DFI Lanpart UT nF3 250Gb board with an Athlon64 3400+ Clawhammer processor. Everything works fine at 2-5-2-2 timings, but as I increase the speed, memtest gives errors in test 5. I have found I can run a single stick of memory at 250MHz with 2.5-6-3-3 timings without a problem. As soon as I add the second stick of memory, test 5 gives errors. I've tested both sticks of memory by themselves, and they work fine. I've tested each slot on the motherboard with single sticks, and they work, so it's not a bad slot on the motherboard. No matter what configuration I put those two sticks in, and what timings I use, I can't get above 230MHz (even at 3-10-4-4). I've increased the voltage all the way to 2.95 without any success, all tests fail at the same spot, 94% through test 5. I do have CPC turned off, so that isn't the problem either. Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah.... I have an idea. I hate test #5. :)

Actually the memory controller integrated on the CPU

is the bottleneck and causing the problem. This is

found by using 2 sticks of 512 mem. and then running

up the HTT speed until the memory controller just can't

handle all the data at the faster speeds.

Lower the LDT setting and see if it will help. If it's set

at AUTO then try something like 2 and then work up if

this helps.

And in memory timings check and see where the Drive

Strength is set. You have an option of 1 thru 4. Try

AUTO first and then 3 or 4... then maybe 1 or 2. This

setting seems to be different for everybody. If it doen't

like a given setting the worst that will happen is it won't

boot and you'll have to clear cmos.

Good Luck.

Good Deal Bro....

I have to use a Drive Strength Setting of 1.

Understanding that everyone's RAM situation is different and

it's not a "one size fits all" situation here is something else

I found while chasing errors in Test #5:

TRC set at 8

TRFC set at 12

Gives me mem errors.

TRC set at 7

TRFC set at 17

Runs clean.

So playing with TRC and TRFC settings can help a guy.

One thing I found is Sista sure likes TRC running at 7.

And a huge benefit I found (as I was trying to not run everything set at AUTO) is I set Tref at 3120 and bingo!

Tref set at 3120 = the full 200mhz setting for memory. There

are options like 166 and 133. So it tells me that AUTO may

furnish one of these weaker settings. And this all comes in

to play even without a guy running a divider.

Example: with Tref setting at AUTO and running 3dMark2001

I was benching 27501. With no other change except Tref the next bench is 27979. A gain of 478 so this proves that AUTO is not always best it's just a matter of tinkering around.

Drive on Sista. It ain't no hill for a climber.

Dang Pop if ya hate test 5 you must really detest test 8. You can loop 5 until the cows

home and still go down in flames in test 8.
