stowenrat Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Smartguardian has a temp reading for it, what is it?
sirfergy Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I don't know, but it's the hottest temp in my system on idle. My CPU will be 40C and it'll be 45C and my case will be 35C.
zaubara Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Thats a chip right next to the CPU socket, reading MOSFET temperatures, AFAIK ... it is rated to 135°C ... http://www.chinavendors.com/product-catego.../0000006491.htm - in case it is that one
Popcicle Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 This is the volt reg chip that is designed to control Vcore settings that come from BIOS. Jack the Vcore on up in BIOS and this IC will increase in temp also as it is part of the Vcore curcuit. @zaubara..... nice linky i'm not for sure if that's the exact chip 'cause I can't get the #'s off mine at the moment. it's covered with cooling hardware. But that darn sure is the "type" of IC and it's functions. Pops.
zaubara Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Uhh ... well, trust Popcicle. I only knew that it has something to do with the voltage regulation Thanks for clearing that up. I'm going to reapply my CPU sink, because the CPU temp rushes 10°C up as soon as it is under load ... in case I find the IC, i'll post its number here
Popcicle Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 If a guy can get some good]/i] air flow around the right side of the CPU socket (as the board is mounted the case) the reading on the PWMIC chip will go scale down. If a guy is running a weak fan on top of the CPU heatsink there just isn't enough cooling benefit to this chip from residual air flow. Or if a guy is using a larger heatsink that extends out far enough to shield the PWMIC from airflow. Then there are those of us with other types of cooling other than air that need to give this chip some attention. As we push the Vcore pretty hard. Ambient temperatures mean a lot and heat within the case also if there are airflow problems. Pops. @ sirfergy..... that 9800 throws a ton of heat. and the PWMIC chip isn't very far away from it 'cause it's to the right of the ZIFF socket. What could you do to give that area some air flow? sirfergy Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Well, I actually use this fanless heatsink: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-185-109&depa=0 I have two low rpm case fans pulling air in from the bottom and the power supply fan sucking the air out from the top. I also have the VGA Silencer for my 9800. My entire goal has been as quiet a system as possible. Right now my HD is the loudest component. Guest maximus Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 the PWMIC reading for mine is around low 30s with the CPU around 35. sometimes the PWMIC would be under 30, around 28, and the fan speed number under it would be
ricey Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 Hi I know this is an old thread, but I found out what PWMIC stands for Pulse Width Modulator Integrated Circuit Any other acronyms you also wanted to know, but were too embarrassed to ask , can be found here. ricey
