lh6461 Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I'm a noob to dfi and athlon64 platform. I will be putting together my rig this weekend (see my sig) and need to know which bios to flash to. I plan on doing mild overclocking, trying to get my 3200 to 2.4. Any help would be great.
Angry_Games Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 you dont need to flash to any bios unless there's a bios that cures a specific issue. If you want to run with CPU Thermal Throttling off, try either the 9/14 of the new 10/15 that has memtest86 built-in.
lh6461 Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Aren't most of the bios's that are shipped have a temp problem. I'm I wrong about that.
Angry_Games Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 you need to assemble the board and boot it up and get it running before you decide to go flashing to a bios. you need to not worry about what anyone else says as their system is their system, not yours. You cannot go by what someone else says they have a problem with if you have never even assembled your system. Build your rig first, and then see what is going on. You might be like me, who never really needs any but the shipping bios. you might be like someone else who needs a specific fix for a specific issue...without having a running system....how can you know? Angry_Games Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 you got some nice stuff in your specs...you shouldnt have any problem at all. the only reason i flashed to the 9/14 was to be able to disable CPU Thermal Throttling. I haven't even flashed to the 10/15 with memtest built-in because I use the NF3 every day, all day, to work, game, listen to music etc...and i just haven't had a chance to go flash and let memtest run a while. And my NVraid version still works and i didnt need an update (latest is 4.66, my version in my 9/14 bios is 4.52 i think). basically...my board works great (it actually overclocked just as well on the stock bios but i always like turning Thermal Throttling off, and couldnt get it to boot when that setting was disabled...otherwise I'd still be on the shipping bios) and I tend to not flash them unless its needed (I let RGone guinea pig all the new bioses lol)
noneother Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 i am looking to flash with the 9/14, hoping to get my cpu temps right, and hope to OC a little more... can I flash the Bios without a floppy drive?? I really want to max out this cpu, one, because I have a spare... and 2 my benchmarks so far show my CPU to be the bottle neck, possibly the ram, but man that's good ram... Angry_Games Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 thermal throttling = cpu runs more idle cycles when not being used, lowering temps....this can interfere with overclocking quite a bit. www.rojakpot.com
