gdogg Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Well google nlite great lil program, driver intergration and all and dont forget black viper tweaks it will also allow you to set up your xp cd to use Advanced Configuration and Power Interface without have to press p5 also removing alot of the components virus' and worms prey on is a good thing also when you though you couldn't get any faster your find out sp1 is faster (benchmarks) then sp2 and maybe no sp is faster, with sygate, no worms gonna touch you anyway only really needed xp update i've found was that jpeg exploit When you thought your computer was fast it just got faster

gdogg Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 oh cool, good thing i brought up the rest of the feature of this great lil proggy, or else ppl might have though it was just for slipstreaming service packs (ewww) i believe service packs make more security holes then they fix. Im using xp pro 2600, no sp's cause they just take up extra memory. and besides, sp1 was bogus, and sp2 was laughable since its imcompatible with much software/games still heh sygate and nod32, and no service packs, (well a couple of win updates like jpeg exploit) but still,
Soap Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 i believe service packs make more security holes then they fix. This is true. Its job security, fix a problem and create another one. Keeps them a job. It was asked of me one time, "is there a perfect OS?" My answer, Linux, its not perfect but near perfect. No need for virus software, no need for adware (ad-aware, spybot and etc.) Can you imagine the huge wonderful devestating impact if evryone from home user to busineses alike switched to linux. So many software companies would be put out of business.
gdogg Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 so true, but a linux that is easy enough for home users, and actually has software(games) that a home user would want to use doesn't exist yet, but there are two companies out there promising all windows software in linux at 80-95% the speed in windows. Soap Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 so true, but a linux that is easy enough for home users, and actually has software(games) that a home user would want to use doesn't exist yet, Sort of, meaning it has got alot better and there are currently a growing number of native linux games out there. The problem is these software manufactures/developers don't offer support for linux, out of the box. Ex. D00M3, UT2004, UT2003 are linux native. Farcry and BFV will install with wineX/Xine using the sh command. Are there improvemnets to be made still? Absolutely, linux is moving forward in that direction making quality progress. gdogg Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 yeh but what i was trying to say, was that there is software to come in the next year/two, that will make all your windows titles, work under linux, without any noticable performance loss, it will sure be a whole new game for linux then. 2 different companies are currently working on releasing this type of software in the next 6 months to year (well you know how ambisous things normally go)
gdogg Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 i read up a bit more about it, the way its dont is it converts dx code to linux ports in real time, and caches it on the hard disk for later use, to improve the performance the next time the game is run. This will be a very good thing for all of use "Parinoid" people, which im probally at the top of the list, i remember how many times a windows virus has gotten into the bios (before mobos has virus protection features) and those horrible mbr virus' and the millions of spyware and worms and adware which have given everyone a headache atleast once in the past couple years. but until those programs come out, nlite is becoming a great solution to help me help my friends not need my help. I've got there xp cd to intergrate there drivers, the jpeg exploit, and have even chaged the commit chage (mem usage) from 250-300MB after adware/spyware/virus scanners/ and firewall programs down to a pleasing 120-150MB, not to mention the extra secuirty disabling workstaion service in windows gave me, since its #2 of the most exploited windows services
