Hmm.....interesting...

Recommended Posts

For several days I have been interested in the PWM IC temps reported by the Smartguardian. Like many others I too suffered with readings that approached 50+ C. While using SANDRA this morning I noticed that SANDRA reports my CPU temp at the temp that Smartguardian labels PWM IC. Has anyone actually measured the PWM IC to get a reading? Perhaps the mystery is sloved...the PWM IC on Smartguardian is actually the CPU temp.

Thoughts?

Ahh, if only it was the case mate, I have this trouble as well.

I have put a thermal probe on it though and it's reading right.

Last night after a game of IL-2 (very CPU intensive game) my PWM IC was at 54 celcius:eek: in a coldish room (around 20 Celcius) and the damn CPU was only 44. System was at 29.

Trouble is these guys don't know why because they won't even answer what the danger levels of this chip might be, if you can't get an answer on a DFI forum where can you get it?

Suposing this chip burns up (It controls the Vcore right?) what will it take with it?

Will it take my very expensive 3400+ with it? Need answers but they aint very forthcoming unless it's "how do I overclock on my uber DFI?"

 ... you say this and I quote you:

You look up the white sheet on the IC in question and see what the temp spec is for that IC and then you have your answer from the people 'who' manufacture the IC and should know how hot they think their IC should be run.

Sincerely, RGone...

DFI stick it on their board, you think I'm asking in the wrong place?

Rgone, in all honesty I was simply trying to draw someone out with an answer, I've tried asking in the 'normal' way.

I have no idea who makes the damn chip so I ask in here, is that really so bad?

Kinda churlish answer you gave mate but whatever, I will RMA the damn board, I had enough with it already.

 ...churlish for telling you how to get your answer? Humh? Tired of the board anyway! Humh? Sounds like you did not want an answer anyway.

Have fun.

Sincerely, RGone...

PS: when you play the devils advocate to "draw someone" out as you say you did > you may find you do not like the answer in many cases. RGone...Again...

I would appreciate knowing who the manufacturer is of the PWM IC chip. I had a look on the web for the info...but no luck. I am concerned about my temps too. I live in a hot climate, so I'd like to know the upper limit of the PWM IC chip, just so I don't blow my board...cause I love it :)

However, I have ordered some microsinks and hopefully I can fit one on the PWM IC chip...if my waterblock clears it :)

Would appreciate the info if you have it Rgone.

Thanx

 ...have it and haven't worried about it as I clock the "P" out of my UT 250gb and I don't run any volt monitors from windows ever on any board.

Post a pic with the IC in question and I will see if I can get an answer about who makes it. Answers like this are slow to come by, so don't expect me to run out and back in with an answer. I seldom pay attention to such crap and sink what I feel needs sinking and mostly just haul butt.

I guess some question engineering more than I do as I just hooker up and tweak her up till she goes as fast as she will and back her down a notch and carry on. So picture me up as to location and will try to see if I can get at least the manufacturer of the IC.

Other than that, I am just RGone...

I have my system clocked rather high and the PWM IC is running at 63c underload, cpu 39, sys 35 and that is with a heatsink on it, before that it was hitting 90c:eek: but the machine was still going fine, but i bottled it and tuned it down a bit untill i found out where it was and what it done and max temp.

found 1 of the 3 out, location only.

i would not worry about it, like rgone says clock it untill it becomes unstable then knock it back a notch, and if you are brave enough dont even load a temp moniter up.

Think that is hot try felling your ram when you have it overclocked, i put a sensor on my ballistix ddr500 and it they where hitting 70c.

You live on/in the Bermudas and waste your time tweaking a PC ? :D

I'd be outside hunting the chicas and surfin' my brains out

Sorry for Spam - I know that you have differnt issues in such a climate
