chris.y2k.r1 Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Ok guys, I finally have a sig. Here's where I'm at: I have been stuck at the 220FSB barrier. I realize that my RAM isn't helping HOWEVER - I have the timings set as loose as the BIOS will let me to attempt to eliminate that as my problem. I have also tried changing the 1:1 ratio to allow the RAM to run slower than the FSB (Speaking of which is - it isn't very clear which is which, in the BIOS (Stock BIOS), for the DRAM RATIO, which is the FSB and which is the RAM speed. I assume the second is the RAM!?) So anyway, I would like to move beyond this FSB wall - any suggestions without changing RAM or BIOS versions? Thanks! P.S. I get single beeps and rare lock ups at 220FSB. What do these single beeps mean?? They occur at about 20 minute intervals with no discernable reason. I pulled the syncs. It's nothing I've ever heard of before. Again, I know it's not the best idea to mess with FSB/RAM ratio but does anyone know which is which 1:1 what? FSB to RAM or RAM to FSB. Thanks for the beep codes Tedy.
chris.y2k.r1 Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I guess I should mention that I am running (obviously) with CPC on but also dual channel.
THunDA Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Well if they aint bh5.. and you already got pc2700 up to 220fsb.... Id say your doing pretty darn good for what you have.. The only other thing I could suggest is trying cpc off or maybe lossening the timings.. Id say more voltage also..But most ram other than bh5-bh6-ch5 dont like alot of voltage.. So be carefull putting more into it.. And memtest is your FREIND..
nebuchanezzar Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 just curious if you've tried memtest to see what your ram can do. Take your results with agrain of salt though as you probably can't run as high in windows as in dos. on th =e bright side you have like a 50Mhz oc on your memory approx. thats good in and of itself. chris.y2k.r1 Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Actually, I pulled the memory from slots 1 and 3 this weekend and ran them in 2 and 3 instead (effectively turning off the DC mode). I can now run up to 240FSB but can't get her prime stable at that speed. It looks like I can get 235 FSB stable running around 2450 MHZ. Not too shabby considering I am using a bone stock XP2400 AMD heat sync and fan. I did carefully lap the heat sync all the way up to 1500 grit. I can get the machine to boot into Windows at 240FSB no problem, but I can't get it prime stable. I have the memory setting as loose as the bios will allow and I have found the best voltage setting(s). Any thoughts for Prime?? By the way, the HyperX PC2700 is posting 3548/3178 in Sandra 2004!! Dayuuumm! Not bad, especially considering I paid $110 for 2x256. I think I will add one more stick.

I think it's high compression RAM, ya know, like a sportbike; 14,000 RPM redline with 12:1.
