Veky Posted May 25, 2003 Posted May 25, 2003 Specs: Asus A7V333 Rev 1.01 512mb TwinMOS PC2700 XP1800+ DLT3C JIUHB MPMW 0308 *********0291 I'm currently at 12.5 x 172 = 2150mhz at 1.7Vcore. Everything over 170FSB is unstable and I get freezes. (but I dont think it's CPU related) Is it my ram that's holding me back as it's DDR333? Would getting an Epox 8RDA and PC3200 RAM help? Temperatures are fine, cpu is at 35c, system is at 28c. Last question... my mobo has the max multiplier 12.5. I don't understand this, even the manual says "options 4-14". One guy with the same mobo has the multiplier at 15x. Thanks for any suggestions.
DimensioN Posted May 25, 2003 Posted May 25, 2003 maybe your memory.. where does it freezes? in bios or when it gets in windows?
Veky Posted May 25, 2003 Posted May 25, 2003 Well, it either freezes at a random point in WinXP, or while benching with UT2003. But the regular freeze is when running Prime95. The funny thing is I can set it to 12.5x172 = 2100 mhz at 1.6V and it doesnt crash. Gotta be the RAM.
cptkook Posted May 25, 2003 Posted May 25, 2003 Most likely the ram... your stressing it at 344mhz, I would suggested getting PC3200 or better yet PC3500. That will give you more room to work.
Veky Posted May 25, 2003 Posted May 25, 2003 Yeah, it's definately the RAM. I tried 10x185 for a pitiful 1850mhz and at a very high Vcore (1.9v) but the system froze again. The RAM just doesn't like to be oced. I can't put PC3200 RAM in this mobo... if I get some money, then Epox 8RDA and PC3200 are on their way. Robbiesan Posted May 25, 2003 Posted May 25, 2003 (edited) Veky, the first thing I recommend you update your BIOS.. you are using a fairly old revision.. Asus A7V333 BIOS Updates the BIOS updates caould make a big difference for you.. when I updated to BIOS 1004 (A7N8X and AMD2600+) it unlocked my cpu.. I can now scale in the fsb in 1Mhz increments.. I have a full range os multipliers too.. I'm using PC3200 but I find the machine is not stable at 200fsb.. I am currently at 2275 @ 12.5x182 vcore 1.75, 48 Edited May 25, 2003 by Robbiesan
Veky Posted May 25, 2003 Posted May 25, 2003 I have the latest BIOS for the mainboard, Robbiesan. It would be great if my mobo allowed a higher multiplier or at least setting a lower RAM speed with high fsb.
eugenius Posted May 26, 2003 Posted May 26, 2003 I'd have to say the RAM, i started to get the same problem @ 185 FSB so I get some non-generic ram and it all went away ^_^
