Just when I thought it was OK...

Recommended Posts

Ok, I got the SATA thing all fixed and running, thanks RGone, but it looks like i done fuggered something up again.

It's that damn F10 key I tell ya!

What happenened: BIOS 9/14

I installed, setup, and began doing normal computer things, ya know, surf the web, get some apps, bla bla bla.

Then for some reason I decided to go back into my BIOS and change something. It was minor, changing my boot order so my RAID0 was first.

F10 to save; blank screen. Ok no biggie I thought.

Pressed reset, nothing.

Powered down then powered up. Nothing.

CDROM was making clunking noises, powered down unplugged CDROM, rebooted. Nothing.

Ok, screw it, I cleared CMOS and I was able to access. Hooray! or so I thought.

Re-enabled SATA RAID so I could boot O/S, F10 to save.

Rebooted, blank screen.

So basically can't save changes to CMOS. Can't boot up because my drives are in RAID, doesn't recognize. Can't get into RAID bios, blank screen.

Sounds like my board broke... heh... :(

Thoughts/suggestions,

~Leper

I've read else ware that if you have fast write enabled (which is the default) it can cause some systems to drop the video line. Might want to try and disable it. Another thought is that perhaps your board is having ram issues? Try moving down to one stick, from there try moving it to different ports and perhaps one if them might correct this problem. This was one of the problems I was having. Now I have all new problems but thats the way it goes. :P

Ok, switched to 1 stick, tried all 3 slots, disabled fast write and still good old power save monitor after i attempt to save BIOS settings.

Everything was fine, until i decided i wanted to change boot order, i mean, had my o/s up no problem, runnin well... ugh

Bummer, sorrie to hear that, hope you get everything taken care on in the future. Personally, Im thinking about just sending mine back and eating the 15% restock fee. I mean I know its a enthusiast board and your suppose to tweak it but if it take 4-5 days just to get a default setup running that just kinda silly. But I'll see what we can come up with here first. Anyways, GL mate, can't think of anything else to suggest but Im sure a mod or a tech will have better ideas then I. :P

Yeah, it's alate and I will wait for the admin peoples to wake up and tell me i need to "hammer my face" or just send it back. If i send it back, I might just get a refund if possible. Bought it from some slow butt place called buyxtremegear.com or some crap :( Newegg didn't have. bleh.

Hello,

I dont think the board is your problem, there has been some strange thing happen when there is a piece of hardware that does not agree with system/chipset.

There is probably some settings that are causing this. When you set boot priority do you do it from bios or after you post. I feel sure there is a simple anwser to this one. Just have to put a finger on it.

Do you have raid inabled on all channels, & do you have sata inabled on all channels.

The only way that I have been able to access the BIOS is if I clear the CMOS. Once in the BIOS I check all the SATA is enabled then F10 to save, then nothing. Clear CMOS again, enter BIOS, load fail safe defaults, F10 to save, nothing. no boot. Unplugged all hard drives, optical drive, floppy drive, and fans.

Nothing but 1 stick of RAM, Vid card, and processor.

Clear CMOS.

boot.

F1 to continue or del for setup.

Enter CMOS.

defaults are loaded.

exit without save.

boots up to no hard drive present.

reset

Set SATA in BIOS

save and exit

BAM, power save on monitor and no boot

Unplug the system, pull the battery, and leave the CMOS jumper in the clear position (at least an hour). Replace battery, replace jumper, run BIOS setup, save Optimized Defaults. If you have a reliable way to flash the BIOS at this point, it may be a good idea to reflash it (from a fresh download).

I also read a post somewhere about people having trouble with certain keyboards (on NF3 boards) of all things... try another keyboard.

well i'll give it a go. gonna put a diff bios on too maybe, like 10/05 just to see if it works too. reflashed to 9/14, but that didn't work earlier. so CMOS 1hour, flash bios, then opti default, try to save, and go from there.
