dagoof Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I've read all about install problems here, but can't seem to find the answer to remedy my particular problem, (so sorry if it's already been asked) Running stock bios (will get up to date tomorrow when I buy a floppy disk), Thermalright xp-120, x800xt, corsair TWINX1024-3200LLPRO, dual raptors, CH 3200+ The problem is that no matter what ports I use, whether the raptors be in RAID or not, even when I have all the SATA ports enabled, I run into one of two problems. Usually when installing without raid, windows will finish installation, but then cannot boot. It just freezes at loading, then goes back to post. OR When in RAID I get a blue screen error after windows formats the drive and copys files - right after it says "Starting Windows Installation" New bios tomorrow, and if that doesnt work, I pray that someone here can help me with my predicament. dagoof Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I haven't changed the fsb or ram timings, anything like that, and I've tried using all ports. Each drive individually on each port, and both in raid on each SATA set. No luck, be back tomorrow - bedtime.
dagoof Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I forgot to mention: When windows installs, but wont get past loading screen - I CAN get in safe mode. (If that helps at all) Your assistance would be much appreciated, or else back to newegg she goes.
Samurai Jack Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Without a sig with your specs its hard to make any guesses. You running W2K, XP what kind a CPU ect............. I am going to suggest this tho, Clear CMOS, I dont know why but I had this prob and after a clearing it solved i. Oh Hit the LOAD OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS in bios. There are many settings in bios that could effect this. You really need to setup,CPU,RAM & buses. I would think that this is because of instability. Maybe ram, but lower your LDT multiplier to 3x when you do all this. And remember, when setting voltages you have to do it twiced. Enter bios - set voltages - save & exit - enter bios - save & exit. There is a issue with saving voltages that requires this. SJ
dagoof Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I didnt think it was necessary to have them in my sig yet, as all my parts are listed in my first post. I am doing the things you suggested right now - I'll get back ASAP

dagoof Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 I have been through a lot. Lets start with the basics. I managed to get winxp to load on a single Raptor, but it came out with some errors (missing files and stuff was crashing). I had to go through the installation again, but I chose repair, and it got most of the files back. It was somewhat stable, but if a program were to crash, it would become corrupted, and needed to be reinstalled. Some programs wouldnt install because they were "Corrupt" - but sometimes when the corrupt error came up, if I pressed "retry" about 5 times, it would work. I decided that this was no way to run a pc, and that I had 2 raptors, why was I settling for non-raid 0? Just tonight, I did everything as stated here: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...=&threadid=1892 and I tried to get win2k w/ sp4 to work as this user did http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...=&threadid=1892 but when I got to the error screen, my keyboard won't register, and therefore it will not restart. As it stands, I get BSOD'd during the winxp installation after it loads files. I've decided that either the motherboard is borked or there is some workaround that I haven't heard of yet. I would like to RMA this mobo as soon as possible if it IS corrupted, so a swift response would be most appreciated.

Samurai Jack Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 I just spent 3 weeks getting my raid to work, just tonight did I finally manage a install. I was having the exact same probs as you, to the T. Exceapt when I did install on 1 raptor it would work fine. I am using W2k tho, What I had to do is slipscreen service pack 4 & intergrate the raid driver & burn a new copy of the modified windoz. There is one version of XP that will not work, or maybe its one version of the SP2 that will not work but this sounds like your problem. I will come back & edit this post with the program I used to do this with, it did it all by itself with no hasles. Intergrated the service pack & drivers for me & also made me a ISO copy for burning. Sweat little program I must say. Like I said I will come back & give you links to what you need & also find out which XP or SP it is that will not work. I fill sure this is the anwser to your issue, it took me three weeks to figure out why mine would not install on raid.
