[RESOLVED] TIRED MEMORY>> Need help with my UT NF3 250GB.

Recommended Posts

Greets all, I have been trying to figure out what is going on with my UT NF3 250GB Mobo I just bought for the last two days. Here is my situation. I am running the config in my sig. The only way I am able to make the board post is to clear the cmos. Once the system will post it gives me the :

Cmos checksum error - Defaults loaded

Warning! Now System is now in Safe Mode.

Please re-setting CPU Frequency in the CMOS setup

With the options of f1 to continue, or del to jump to the bios.

Now, if I hit F1 the system will continue to start but is very slow and unstable (Traperror's, BSOD, Reboot, etc) but I was able to install XP over about 20 reboots. This is how I was able to move to the beta bios hoping it would fix my errors but it did not.

Ok, so I can also hit DEL and move into the bios. Now no matter what I do in the bios the system will not restart after a save. It just stops working and my display drops into power save mode. I tried to turn off "CPU thermal-throttling" as well as "Fast Write" with no luck. I also tried the Optimized Defaults with no luck, and setting the CPU's speed by hand instead of using auto with no luck, and every combination of the three. I've also tried started the bios and just saving and exiting with the same problem. But if I don't save it will post but gives me the same errors and has the same problems listed above. All of these setting leave me with a board that will not post until I clear the bios.

I have also tried using different ram, one chip, two chips, different ram ports, etc. I have tried removing the cdrom, as well as the HD, one at a time and all together with no luck. I've reseated to CPU as well as the Heat Sink a number of times with no luck. The only thing I can think of is to use a different Vid Card but I just have the on. Any and all help would be great.

I'm really disappointed to be having this much trouble when EVERYONE says what a great board this is. Hope we can figure this out. Thank for you time.

first boot past POST screen without anything but cpu, ram, video. If it goes through no problem then begin hooking up one periphial at a time and see what happens.

if you still get checksum errors at beginning post screen with minimal hardware, first thing is to check the battery (try another from another mobo).

second thing is to flash back to original BIOS using the Diamond Flash Image, then reboot, wait until POST and shut off, pull power from board, remove battery, clear cmos for 30 seconds, then reverse, power up, go into bios and Load Optimized Defaults.

let me know how this goes as there's other avenues to go down ;)

Yay, we're making progress.

The batt was dead, now im at the point where I can change settings in the bios and still start up windows but exp. BSOD often as well as full out crashes. If I put my ram in the first port the system still frags and will not boot, but will boot on the other two with the BSOD and crashes spoken of before.

How should I continue from here?

take a look through those screens and see if you see anything helpful...remember im overclocked 250x9 1:1....

you have the 4-pin ATX power plugged in near the socket?

after changing the battery, did you completely clear CMOS with no battery etc? flash the bios using a Diamond Flash Image (from the downloads - bios section at dfi.com.tw). You can always flash it to whatever you want, but first flash it with the DFimage as it will clear all sections of the bios.

if that no worky...just let me know ;)

Checked though them, nothing there I didn't already know or try to use.

Yep yep.

Fully cleared the bios, no batt, plug and the jumper bridged. I also moved back to the retail bios as you suggested. With the retail bios, I can now set the optimized defaults and have the board boot but can not get it to start windows, I also thought I would try and reinstall as SJ said but can not even get the rom to fully start, it locks with all the drivers it loads on boot.

if that no worky...just let me know ;)

What else should I try?

try some different jumper settings on your HD and try a different IDE port

make sure the hd has a separate ide cable to optical drives.

otherwise sounds like the cpu. try increasing voltage.

oh yeh just rememberd POWER SUPPLY!

what brand, model, amps on rails and power rating is it?

youd need a min of 400w with at least 30A on the 3.3v and 20A or dual 15A+ on the 12v

Well I just found out what the problem was, my ram was on the virge of death. As they just burnt out earlyer today. My buddy brought over some of his ram and its up and stable. What ram should I look into getting, was thinking something with 1gb on a single dimm with a 2.5 or 2 cas. that overclocks well... Lol, I can dream right =p Really though what should I think about picking up?

Oh, also wanted to thank everyone that replyed to this thread. Thanks alot!!!
