NF3 Onboard NIC and Cable Modem...

Recommended Posts

My Lanparty NF3 UT works flawless, except for one thing. I can't get the onboard NIC to work with my cable modem. It doesn't pull a DHCP address and refuses to establish any communication with my ISP.

Right now, I'm using the 5.10 nforce drivers and SP2... and I've tried with and without the Nvidia firewall installed.

I've tried forcing every combination of 10/100 HD/FD.

I've tried manually entering the MAC listed on the AGP slot.

I've disabled/enabled the Firewire port (not that I think that affects anything)

If I install any PCI NIC, that card works fine... but it be an Intel Pro card or a bargain basement POS.

The onboard NIC does pull a DHCP address and establish connection with my home server, though.

It's no biggie, as I'm using the Intel card for the internet now. It's just a little strange. Any ideas?

Oskar,

I've tried disabling Checksum Offload, and still no connectivity.

Right now, here are my settings:

Checksum Offload - Disable

Flow Control - Enable

IEEE 802.1P Support - Disable

Jumbo Frame Payload Size - 1500

Low Power State Link Speed - Enable

Network Address - Not Present

Optimize For - CPU

Segmentation Offload - Enable

Speed/Duplex Settings -

WakeOnLAN From PowerOff - Enable

Any ideas?

culinist,

I'll look into those forums. Thanks for the link.

My "network" is just two computers connected with a crossover ethernet cable (no hub). I have no problems communicating with the other computer using the NVLAN nic.

trun firewall setting to anti-hacker only ... I found nvfirewall software has bug in some platform which will not really set to firewall to disable unless you remove it from control panel ...

Try remove all the nv program and install again without nv firewall ...

I have the SAME ISSUE!!! Nic is not working. Lights flash and link up to modem is live. Reinstalled windows. Installed NIC drivers without installing firewall software still nic is not connecting. HELP!!

I have installed a second nic in the PCI slots to check my cable and modem this works fine but on board nic is not working. Green lights on but won't communicate.

Did you use another motherboard/NIC in combination with your motherboard before?

That might be the answer. Load optimized defaults and try inputting the MAC of your old NIC (for me, my ISPs DHCP refuses connection with the wrong MAC)

After the first day of troubleshooting this problem, I completely uninstalled the NV firewall. So, unless re-installing it might fix the problem I'm just going to leave it off. It'd be nice to use it for the internet connection, but there's no point installing it just to talk to my other PC.

I don't think it's a MAC issue, although I thought about that. I've swapped various NICs in and out of this machine and they all communicate fine with my ISP. But, yes, I did try using a "known good" MAC address in the NVLAN BIOS settings. I also forced it's "correct" address that was printed on the AGP slot.

Like I said, the NIC isn't bad. It works with my internal network fine, just no dice with the ISP.

Any other suggestions?? Thanks for the help, guys...

Guest Spartacus

I assume you've tried this, but make sure the NF3 NIC is working and ready to go, connect the CAT5 to the cable modem, and then re-power the cable modem.

I know I've cycled the power on my cable modem several times trying to resolve this problem, but after reading Spartacus' post I decided to give it one more shot.

This time... it worked! It was a shock to me, as I know that I've done the same thing at least 4-5 times in the last week. Maybe it was an issue of getting the steps out of order, but it worked like a charm this time.

taigerr, take note. This should fix your problem, too.

I also find that going into control panel then network connections and selecting your connection and disabling it and then waiting 30 secs and

enabling works great. I also find that using the optimize for Throughput instead of cpu gives me way faster speeds and downloads!;)
